Due to circumstances out of my control, my time scale just got pushed way up. Will be having surgery soon and moving shortly after (house in renting is being sold) so I am throwing a little bit of everything in some grain and hoping for the best before I have to break it all down. Will not be stopping cult (hopefully) but would rather transport dried fruits and spore\slants then a bunch of jar and tubs in various stages of growth\fruit. Fun fun.

I do have some Tamps about to go to fruiting as well as some agar about to throw into grain, but would still rather start again when I know I can. As of right now, I don't know where I'll be living after February 28th. I'll figure something, even if I have to move back a few states with family and come back later. Might be able to find someone to stay with that I can pay rent in ha. But I just really hate not knowing. Normally I would say fuck it and grab my pack and my dog and go live in the woods again but can't do that with this back injury so just gonna try to bulk up as much as I can while I can and hope for the best.

I've been fruiting my first clones too. I'm trying to get my sub prep mastered right now. I'm having mixed results with my clones due to that fact.

First transfers complete:

Public service announcement: if you decide to be more eco-conscious and get some glass petris to try out, don't try to use them as no-pour plates (meaning, don't PC them with agar already in them). The condensation and general residual wetness is a pain in the ass to work with, and definitely adds an extra potential contamination vector - hopefully it doesn't come back to bite me too hard. Lessons learned, I guess?
I just bought 20 of them and I'm in love. I have no condensation issues and I do no pour. Idk what your method is but I pour them and do something else until they don't run when tilted (lid off). Small glass on bottom, large glass on top, I'm sure you already know. I'm not sure what brand mine are but they have a more lose fit than I expected. After they cool enough to touch I move then into a cupboard to cool. If I don't use them right away I use press and seal wrap to wrap a stack. I notice no difference between top or bottom and not really any condensation. If there is excess moisture it's usually a small bead around the edges. I'm sure there's lots of variables but I'm buying more. Wish I bought them sooner.
I'm doing my first transfers for my grow tonight I'll be able to post pics.

You know the deal. Gonna take my T2's now. Let one plate colonize a bit further before I give it a go on grain.
1 • 14 • 20• T1 → T2 •
Let's go through the past week:Plate 1: Day 5, displayed abnormal (possibly mold) growth between 9 and 10 o'clock. Transfer from 3 o'clock. Plate 2: Day 2, bacterial growth from the get-go between 4 and 5 o'clock. It's all over now, baby blue. Plate 3: Muh boy. No external cultures. No aberration from concentric growth. Going to grain. I'll transfer at that time, too. Plate 4: Day 4, started splotching at 3 o'clock. Also markedly less dense between 8 and 3 o'clock. Let it fruit in the plate. Plate 5: Day 2, bacterial growth from the get-go at 12 o'clock. Transfer from 6 o'clock.

Thanks mang. Moving all my plates to the other end of my grow room closer to the heat and sunlight eliminated all my condensation issues.

Got a few things cracking & a few things getting scrapped. Will revamp grow log this evening & tomorrow. Kids trained me on new cell phone so will have some crappy mini round pictures up too. Going to slowly swap back to glass wide mouth & try a few deli rounds to:
A, increase visibility B, eliminate condensation C, eliminate what I feel is a vector of contamination in MY situation.
I think my mini rounds will remain in my arsenal as my final transfer (tiger drop) to grain but I will benefit from increased visibility in initial sector isolation rocking glass.

January 15th:
Getting bored waiting for plates to grow out, so cooked up grain this morning (just some wheat pints and quarts, nothing worth taking pictures of) and now PC'ing.
In the meantime, I also decided to make up some bags to use for the pans following Asura's basic recipe (see https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25987049 ) with a couple small modifications. I used wheat for the grain instead of milo / wbs because it's what I had on hand (well, that or corn, which I like for growing stones). I also used black kow (composted cow manure) instead of hpoo, and since it has (at least, as I've read) fewer nutrients and minerals, I supplemented with a couple tablespoons of BRF, gypsum, and spent coffee grounds.
Since I'm starting with wet black kow instead of dry manure, I follow the 40% / 30% / 15% / 15% ratios by volume rather than the weighted measurements. To get the moisture right, I held a cup of verm out, got the rest to field capacity, then added the dry verm to bring it just below.
Final recipe (for two medium-sized bags):
- 8 cups (tightly packed) shredded straw
- 6 cups black kow
- 3 cups hard winter wheat (uncooked)
- 3 cups vermiculite
- 2 tbsp spent coffee grounds
- 2 tbsp gypsum
- 2 tbsp brown rice flour
Bags loaded up and ready to seal:

(I don't have a proper impulse sealer yet, but my vacuum sealer works well enough - I just seal it several times to be safe.)
Inside of the bags:
(Still seems a little more wet than I'd like, but since the wheat and straw are both uncooked, I'm hoping those will absorb most any excess moisture during the PC cycle.)
All sealed up and ready to PC:

Now to wait... I'm going to make an LC with the best of the current T1 plates later this week, so these will need to sit for a week or two, but I'm good with that. (I always like to let grains sit a bit to give any bacteria or mold that survived the PC cycle time to show itself, so I don't waste time trying to grow it out.)
Also, out of impatience, I also streaked some Tamp and Mexicana (Jalisco) spores last night, but won't track those here because this is plenty already.

I think ill be taking the same approach with my pans, where do you source your spawn bags/ filters? Havent had the time yet to look into my options yet..i think my buddy has a sealer i could borrow for a few days otherwise ill be searching for one.

Grabbed mine off of Amazon, with filters included. Not 100% thrilled with the bags honestly - they seem really fragile after the PC cycle, which makes mixing up LC / grains a delicate operation, and I end up using packing tape to reinforce areas that seem weak. So if others can recommend bags they really like, please do! (Otherwise, I'll probably just order some from a sponsor.)

Unicorn bags all the way for me. Out-grow (sponsor) sells them individually, but theyre cheapest direct from manufacturer, also a member here named Gr0wer has a website called myers mushrooms and he sells them by the 100 with a decent price.
If you can swing it and use enough of them, its cheapest to order direct from unicorn, ~400$ for 1000 bags. And if you’re an e tra cheap skate they sell factory seconds for like 80$ for 1000, the website says they will only sell them 10 boxes at a time but call and ask, they’ll ship you a single one. About 100$ after shipping and 9/10 of the bags are fine but definitely inspect each on thoroughly.

Cook oats, make sure theyre dry on outside, load bags, accordion fold or preseal and PC 2.5-3 hours at 15 psi. Bottom layer folds up rest of the layers folds down. Make sure your pressure doesnt drop too fast or bags can pop.
Pretty much the same as making jars just a little bigger and easier to damage.
LAGM2020 update: Poured agar for my t2’s last night, will do those today and update.

This is one plate of my LGT's. it fell behind my other 2 that i took the first transfers from but it looks a lot better than the transfer plates...
i let it sit for a few extra days and noticed some really nice growth.

the plates that i took transfers from were just a bunch of fluff balls like u see here.

this is the same plate, has nice even growth on the front and 3 puff balls at the back.

im still kinda new at the agar thing, so i would like to get some advice throughout this journey.
am i headed in the right direction? like obviously the puff balls are from nutritious agar and common starting from spore in my scenario, but the uniform rings is what i need to be transferring from correct?
front of the pic is where ill be taking my next transfer.

thanks

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread.
This mono was spawned January 5th 5 qt spawn 10 qt sub. The room my projects are in are around 70 to 72F and around 60 to 70% RH
Sorry about the hazy photo but I don't like opening tubs unecessarily.

A) I used a thin 1/4 - 1/2 inch top layer of CVG at spawn to protect exposed grains. I can't find any info on whether this process is obsolete or not in the last 5 years. Please clarify
B) because of the top layer the top layer doesn't look fully colonized but may very well be underneath, this may be a reason I may stop using a top layer. Please clarify If it's ready for fruiting soon
C) if you'd like a better photo I can open it but please clarify that this is safe to do so and I can get a better one!
D) i also have 6qt shoeboxes that were made the same and the surfaces look identical (except the tubs are unmodified) would it be best to just leave those lids sealed on until harvest? Thanks for the opinions.
