Agar to grain? Impulse sealer in still air box?

Alright, I have my agar plates colonized, and all is well so far. (First timer here) I have spawn bags that I estimate will hold about 1 litre. I have rye. Q1. Is it advisable to put the agar/myc straight into the grain bags? Or to do a jar/s of spawn first and transfer to each spawn bag later?
Q2. Has anyone used an impulse sealer in a still air box? Doable? or a pain in the ass?
Thanks.

What are your goals? If you noc up master jars and then expand to bags, you’re gonna have a lot of spawn. Are you trying to spawn multiple tubs? If it were me, I would get some grain bags going, but use 1 of the plates to noc up a master jar for later expansion. As far as the second question, what are you trying to seal in your SAB?

I'm trying to get a tub going asap I suppose. I've read that the best way to go is grain to grain to speed up colonization to avoid contamination, although I've watched some experienced people here going straight from agar to spawn for tubs directly. Also was wondering how people go about sealing their spawn bags if they have a still air box.... Cheers.

No need to seal the bags up like that. Just fold them over real well, or zip tie them near the top. If you want to get a tub going ASAP, noc up bags and jar. Your bags will be ready to go while you get a master jar expanded.

Skip the bags. If your trying to get a tub going asap and have no experience your probably going to mess them bags up and set yourself back a ways. I would expand your culture to 3 plates if you haven't already. Then take a wedge from each plate to a grain jar then spawn those in shoeboxes when fully colonized. Grain to grain speeds things up for bulk but if you just need mush for your head and don't have experience with G2G you could easily dirty the clean spawn you have trying to expand it. Bags are not near as easy as jars.
When I said expand to 3 plates and take a wedge to grain I mean wedges. However many jars you can run in your PC is how many wedges you should need. I like to do 3 plates per session then expanded the last half a plate to 3 more plates for the next session because I can only run 10 jars at a time.

^^^ This is the best way to go for a beginner. G2g with bags in a SAB is difficult and risky. I work with a FH, and I still only use jars.

Alright, thanks fellas. Off to find some jars this time around. I'll keep the bags for future use.

I put agar into grain bags in SAB, and have my impulse sealer on top of SAB, I just keep it folded over until it’s sealed, hasn’t failed me yet. To be honest, it is a bit tricky if your SAB isn’t very tall.

Thanks Cybin_man, I was thinking the same, or some sort of clip that kept the bag sealed outside the box. I suppose as long as you seal below the fold/clip it works better? ... Cheers.
