How do you know if a sub is "spent"?

So I can obviously tell if trich or some other nastiness is growing... but I have a tub of substrate for example that looks more or less black... I dont know if its just from spores dropping from previous flushes but it doesnt smell funky at all, and half of the tub is still kind of white. Ill try to get some pics of a few different tubs in question.

it’s spent when it stops growing fruits
After you hydrate it, if nothing happens it’s probably spent

thats what I thought but Ive had a harvest, then rehydrate via good misting... and in some instances it took a few days for pins to show again... and in other instances its taken like a week and a half or more. How long is too long between flushes to know if its spent or not?

like you said, sometimes it takes some time and sometimes its right away...
a lot of people just toss it after 1 or 2 flushes because other stuff is ready to go into rotation.
depends on what you want to do or sometimes how desperate you are lol

Man I've had subs put out 4/5 times. Now, if I didn't get fruits or pins after about a little over a week after rehydrating.. I'd just toss. Espically if I've already gotten 3/4 harvests off that sub.
But never sell it short. Always dunk and try and get more. I've had 4th flushes put out like a bar whore

I had a tub of brf cakes that had gone through 4 flushes, they looked done and I meant to throw them out. I forgot though, left it under the bed and when I found it over a week later there was another decent harvest!
If you dont need the space for your next project you might as well let the sub keep going til it gives up or gets too contaminated to have hanging around.
