Pleurotus straw bag packed too loosely?
    #26386520 - 12/17/19 06:53 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

I put this bag together last night, using mostly chopped straw, with some cardboard added, all pasteurized. Noc'd with 10 ounces of rye (golden oyster) culture. Now I suspect the bag should have been packed tighter. It's currently filling 2/3 of a gallon bag. It's only been 12 hours, so would it be a mistake to compress it a little more, or should I just leave it alone?
What are the minimal fae requirements for this strain during colonization?
Thanks!

heh.. a little anxious? I know the feeling... let it sit for a few days see how it is... you will know around 4 or 5 days... unless you did what I have done from time to time and spawn heavy and therefore get next day myc dots.

Is there a filter or something on the bag? There does need to be minimal gas exchange.

I'm going to wipe a spot with iso, and stick micropore tape on it. It's pretty chilly here, so might take a while to start anything.

oh I had a brain fart... its straw... not supplemented hardwood and so its pasteurization not sterilization... so it wouldn't be completely sealed anyways so no filter needed. I have sterilization on the brain lately with my latest projects. And I had just woken up. just kinda keep the bag folded over so it keeps minimal airflow and helps keep the CO2 in the bag until its ready to fruit.

(And they wonder why I'm confused!)
Ok, I'll go tape over the new patches....
