So i have done probally around 40 plates of different strains and up to T5 on certain ones and i just cant seem to get the growth im looking for Could it be my agar thats expired or what would cause all of my plates to look like this its really faint and hard to see any growth without been under a light i included a pic of a pasty plate i made 4 months ago and inoculated it the same time as the rest of these plates its almost like the old pasty plate has thicker better growth than these fresh petris could you all let me know if this is contamination or just a weird not so thick looking growth. The agar receipe is 7grams LME and 10 grams agar with 500ml water Bottom of plate
    Top of same plates above

and the old pasty plate

I agree with Mushboy it looks like mold. However agar recipes can make shit weird. My myc looked like that when my nute. % was too high.

I use a 1:1 ratio with my MEA agar. I do 10 grams of both in 500 ml of water and almost all my myc growth has been consistently rhizomorphic. Smartattack said he got similar results with too much nutrients. Possibly too little nutrients can cause fuzzy growth as well?
This thread has also been very useful to me in my agar endeavors: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18676888

I don't think that's contamination. I've had plates that look very similar that were made with old agar. I have no idea why the plates can still set well and appear totally normal yet promote different types of growth, but I've definitely seen it happen before. There must be some subtle differences in the agar's molecular structure.

i guess if its my agar thats gone bad it wont matter what nutrients i use i just ordered some different agar off amazon ill try making plates with that once it gets here. I think the telephone brand agar i bought from a local Asian market store was very old and that may be why all my plates look like this even my clones looked like this and i put them to jars and so far the jars are doing great no signs of contams

If agar goes bad would that mean its just less effective so if i added more it would make up for the older agar ? because my agar seemed really sticky when i put wedges in jars so if i used say 20 grams instead of 10 grams could that possibly make firmer agar and with the agar been firmer maybe i would see different growth ?

I just made some new agar using 6 grams BRF and 10 grams agar with 500ml water does this sound like the right ratios ?

so far not looking good i did a transfer to some of the new plates and it looks like translucent growth can only really see anything if held under a light so im thinking the BRF didnt provide enough nutrition or the plates i transferred from are bacterial anyway here are some pics
Plate made with new agar and LME 10grams of each 500ml water on dec 20th

plate made with 10 grams new agar and 6 grams BRF and 500ml water
sorry for the poor pic quality it was hard to get the angle right to show this
I also started some plates with fresh spores that have no signs of growth yet but encase these plates are taken from a bad plate i can see how fresh spores do on this new agar

Anyone know why my BRF agar is growing only translucent like mycelium ? does this mean lack of nutrients ?
