My lcs came out of the pc dark AF. Are these carmalized?
If they are what can I do to avoid doing that?
I PCd them for 30 mins @15-16psi...

I think a couple tc’s tried to caramelize some and couldn’t get it to happen. Looks a little dark but should be good.
How many g’s of lme?
I think 1 or 2 is good for 500ml...

I just made some that had a 1g per 500ml. Hard to get a straight answer on the right nutrient levels. Wondering now if its too low….

Because it's mostly preference. People find what works for them and run with it, myc grows on pure grain which is super nutritious or grows on wood chips the main goal in mind is getting it clean

what's the tek say? Answer is straight forward to me
Back on topic ..
Apparently malt extract is mainly glucose which wont caramelize until 320f. The other sugar maltose wont until 356. So no. You literally can not caramelize light malt extract.
Hurray for the internet.

Its probably my fault but I had no idea that your LC thread was even a tek, I just thought it was a thread discussing LCs, until you said "read the tek" and I went back to the first page.
Also thanks for that Info about caramelization temps.
I wonder why mine is looking so much darker than everyone elses then? Maybe it's the brand of lme I'm using...

I think it is nate who has posted a theory about coagulating proteins or some shit
I dunno somethin like that , and beer, brewing beer was also involved

edit:

natedawgnow said: Malt wont caramelize til about 300f so it's highly unlikely that it caramelized.
More likely what is happening is similar to a hot break in home brewing, in which proteins in the malt coagulate until they form a large enough mass to crash out of solution. Happens after about a half hour at boiling temps
Should clarify this is more to do with actual sediment which is what a lot of people think are caramelized sugars.
All my LC come out darker after PC even if I end up with no sediment. Seems to lighten up over time but OP, that is a pretty good colour still to work with. I think it's good

Thanks man! I decided to drop a wedge in one of them so well see what happens! Like you said the mycelium will probably lighten the color as it consumes the nutes..

So I looked and I have a lme lc that looks much better! I don’t know how this one turned out so much lighter. Maybe I pced it for a shorter time period. But it has twice as much LME in it so that definitely isn’t the reason...
The light one has 5gs lme and the dark one has 2.5gs.
I’m really worried I’m going to be wasting a perfectly good plate on these LCS..
I’m unsure of the pc time for the light one but the dark one was only pcd for 18 minutes at 15-17 psi
I'm gonna see if pressure cooking them for 15 minutes at 15psi,like mushbou suggests, helps because I really dont like how dark it's getting

Goodluck bud. Lc can be fucking tricky especially if your not 100% at eyeballing hidden contams on agar. I wish you the best of luck I do but imo lc sucks. But mostly only because I suck at lc. Ways she goes bud... way she goes.

That looks like honey mine looks like molasses
I just dis a test run @ 15 min PC run and it came out with that honey color to it.
So obviously the 5 extra minutes is making mine turn dark almost brown.
You still think that would be fine? I worry because I heard carmelized LCs can cause mutants...
