I haven't had any problem with the regular mouth plastic lids warping the smaller ones are alot sturdier than the wide mouth those suck and for me have to be left loose in the PC. Even with filters.
I also like using regular mouth for my masters. I inoculate with a wedge then tape up the gap between the jar and lid. I'm slowly starting to switch over to only regular mouth jars but I think wide mouth are more aesthetically pleasing and I would hate to have to try making culture slants in regular mouth. Other than that I prefer regular mouth jars.Quote:

They worked for awhile but at some point, I think they started to warp slightly I guess from the repeated PCing, and maybe having jars on top of jars in the PC contributed to that, with the weight of the top jars pushing down on the plastic lids below while they are soft from the heat.
I've never heard that before...pasty uses them and even unscrew them slightly for gas exchange with no issues. It would take a lot of mobility for a contaminant to work it's way up around the threads and into the jar...
I'm not worried about it. I would have to guess it wasn't because of the lids...
I Dunno tho.
Smdh, Blind leading the blind here..
Unmodded Plastic lids are fine if you have low contam rates but even with modded lids screwed all the way down I’ve had microscopic mites crawl up the threads and fuck me harder than any thai hooker.
They only warp if you try to tighten them while hot or over tighten before the PC cycle. Unless theyre shitty quality lids then you get what you pay for..
Just because it works for some people sometimes doesn't mean it works for everyone all the time. Verum wraps his plastic lids and I use silicone seals in mine now. Hell even Pasty (in thats thread you are referencing) says unmodded lids are more of a stop gap solution and should be modded when you have the time.
Also @spunky, dog you really need to learn how to use the search engine, you make like 3 threads a day with questions that have been answered 1000’s of times(like this one). Its either that or doom and gloom BS. Chill out and do some more reading.
How did those leak proof lids work out for you and how is the mite problem going? Things getting better I hope I think I've been having something going on too I'm thinking switching to whole sfds under my lids would solve my problem I've been taping the gap but still having some issues I use polyfil filters though.
