Peruvian torch produced random root aboveground
    #26384389 - 12/16/19 01:46 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hi all!
Got Peruvian torch cuttings previous winter, rooted them over winter and they grew nicely throughout spring/summer/autumn. Now I'm trying to hibernate them on a medium warm place. I stopped giving them water and they don't seem to grow anymore. But yesterday I noticed one cactus produced a root aboveground. Has anyone seen this before? Is this just something random or is it a sign that some conditions are not right? Atm they are in too small pots, I plan to repot them before spring - could the fact that there is not enough space for roots be a cause?

Air roots, sometimes happen randomly or when its quite dry. I have a Bridgesii in the ground that popped a root out, its harmless.

"adventitious roots" i think would be the general phenomenon: http://www.plantphysiol.org/content/170/2/603
