San Pedro rotting from top

hey yall,
so one of my san pedro has started to rot from the top. getting slightly squishy and showing black growing down. so I lopped off a few inches to where it was healthy, applied a natural light fungicide to the top to callous it off - yet it still seems its spreading downward. what to do?
Thanks!

You should post a pic. If it’s still rotting u should probably cut it lower

If the rot is only at the top then cuttimg off the top should have solved the problem, unless you didnt cut off enough, or the growing conditions are too wet/humid, or the rot has already spread deeper into the cactus.

bottom is my thumb is where it starts to feel squishy and worrisome. I already lopped the top off that was sick plus a half inch... maybe it wasn't enough? maybe now that its been lopped and rerooted - it will heal?

Sterilize a sharp knife with copious amounts of alcohol, and dry it with fresh paper towels. Make sure there is no alcohol left on the knife because cactus flesh supposedly doesn't like it and it might cause problems.
I would lop at cut B, some might say its excessive but the cactus should return from a stump and the extra inch really isn't a whole lot. Cut A is a more conservative cut but might not get everything. Absolutely no discoloration should remain and dust the cut end with powdered sulfur. Molds and fungus will slink away in terror at sulfur, and I don't recall it ever letting me down.

Without the plant in front of me, I can't really tell you what to do with it.

Its hard to see the color in those photos. What color is that darker area? Is it black? Is the flesh definitely dead in there?
If it is rot in there then you need to do aggressive surgery and cut the stump to a few inches below the rot. Its like removing cancer; you want wide margins.

Here's pictures with flash. First is the cactus, second is my thumb marking the place where the rot seems to be ending.
Let me know what to do, so much appreciation to yall.

Much clearer now. Its in bad shape. I'm not sure if you can save it. You have to cut well below any rot. You need to do it immediately if that plant has any chance to make it. Best luck.

I only just looked at this thread and I agree with Grey Fox. It's in poor shape and the rot may be too deep to save it. You can only try to cut it all away and hope for the best.
Once you finish removing the rot dry it in front of a fan and apply some sulphur powder to the cuts if you have it. At least fan dry the fresh cuts.

I've actually never seed a cactus rot from the tip downward. Normally it starts at the base near the soil. But like they said your only chance is to cut off the rot. Cut well below where you think the rot is. Because even if it looks like it's not rotting at the surface it could be in the core lower than you think. If you cut and notice discoloration. Thej resterilize the blade and cut lower. Do not recut without sterilizing because it's it bacteria or fungi causing the rot you'll reintroduce it into the clean flesh. On a positive note you could cut that guy down to an inch tall and if there's no rot and it dries it'll pup and eventually grow into a full cacti years down the road.

It does look completely infected unfortunately.. The last pic I can see black coloration lower then your thumb and more on the right side. I believe the top is where it was more obvious so it may have just seemed to come from that way. Possibly you can Root a healthy piece of It and Keep It going? Good luck

Cutting the tip with a non.sterile knife can cause top-rotting like this.
I agree with anyone above. Cut very deep, like more than the half away, leave a stump of two or three areoles height max, fan dry and then hope.
