It's not a great idea that nations want a huge population for economic and defense purposes.  It's a cause of a lot of issues and problems.

Think the video does a good job of touching on the relevant issues...for the next 20-50 years or so

it does a good job of talking about population density at the border vs. sparsity moving northwards
and the issues of (currently) permafrost lands not being utilizable for crop production or even for subterranean piping

have not thought much on the issue,
but think the discussion of arctic policy and population base vs. Russian population base is a really interesting point that has not previously met my consideration
but you would need to ask someone like shivas.wisdom who lives up in the Yukon as to whether the culture and land could support the sort of rapid urbanization necessary
particularly when indigenous groups in the area are already become a form of climate refugee similiar to, but different from, island nations that are sinking with the rising water line

think whether Canadians want it to be the case (as in the instance of the government position in the video) or not
Canada is going to balloon in population by 2100 due to being one of the most likely dumping grounds for climate refugees

as an aside, kind of presuppose that the currently sparse US states will also see a population increase
as areas of the South become uninhabitable and the population migrates within the country to maintain citizenship status of awesomeness
in the US instance, my imagined scenario is yeehaw and hard r will move into uninhabited
as a sort of means of preserving "their culture" while surrounded by more progressive Americans on each coast
kind of like the Canadian population base is distributed at present

Fuck getting 100 million people...  We don't need to be relevant internationally.  We are the closest thing to paradise on this planet.  Let's not fuck that up.

Keep on bringing in more refugees and immigrants, and you'll have your 100 million in no time.

I didn't watch the video, but Canada has one of the world's worst age distributions

That's why politicians are so horny for immigrants. Otherwise our economy will collapse like Japan's did in the 90s. The boomers are going to fuck us. Unless we start fucking and making babies.

Parts of Montana & Wyoming are unbeatable when it comes to spectacular mountain views and North American wildlife.

Now yes it's very, very cold in those states but so are Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota and those states are infinitely more populated than Montana or Wyoming.

Japan is doing just fine, my sister in law is from Japan and their standard of living is very high.

Automation is going to be destroying millions of jobs in the next 20 years, what do you do with millions of people and no jobs for them?  Talk about a real mess.

Average intelligent humans are gonna be out of a job soon.

Higher intelligent people are gonna have to pay a fuck ton of taxes.

We should give them very large salaries so they pay as much taxes as possible.

Japan has had 0% interest rates and no GDP growth in for 30 years. Public pensions don't work at zero rates and lower portions of working age people paying into them. Same with public healthcare systems, income taxes all that shit.

Fear of automation was around the time of the cotton ginny, and tractor. And yet we are doing just fine.

Will have to dig around in my youtube history a bit for the video that references it
but the population boom around the Great Lakes has to do with the major cities being trading hubs
basically as they developed they had access to coastal trade through shipping networks that travelled rivers and lakes
so when they got hooked up with rail lines they became hubs of distribution to the rest of the country

Regardless of the low economic growth and low interest rates, people in Japan still receive their pensions and public health care.

If more people in a nation created economic prosperity, we wouldn't see what we see in the world today. The Elite are always going to promote more immigration for their nations, this was been happening for hundreds of years.
