Intense sciatic nerve pain

about 6 or so years ago was the first time my sciatic nerve started giving me problems. It's been off and on over the years, only a light pain or discomfort. Enough to a really annoy me and make my days longer, but never debilitating. until today. When I woke up I could not sit up. I can't stand up straight or can't sit down, I can't kneel, I can't lay down. I tried stretching a bit but I can't even move enough to do so. I need help getting to the bathroom. Realizing this was not my normal episode, today I finally gave in in the pain came close to tearful tried to drive myself to an urgent care facility since it is Sunday. When I finally got in my truck I realize I couldn't operate the pedals or even really sit in a vehicle. I got a ride to an urgent care facility, spent two hours standing bent over holding onto a chair to hold myself up waiting to see a doctor. I finally got in, and the doctor all they called me in junkie. Said that there was nothing they could do, I would have to see an orthopedic specialist or start taking yoga, but you just suck it up and walk it off. (I am in no way saying that yoga, stretching, or physical exercise cannot be helpful for these conditions. Simply that when you were staring at a man who is unable to stand up straight this may not be the best medical advice for them). Doctor said that an x-ray was useless, and MRI probably wouldn't show anything, and that she could give me "a very painful shot that probably won't help". I left the urgent Care before the examine was finish because I don't like being treated as such. (Later found out the woman before me had also left her examine with her son after being treated poorly) it has been about nine hours since I woke up, and I still cannot stand up straight or lay down or sit down. This is by far the worst my sciatic pain has ever been, in close to the worst pain I have had from any medical condition. Looking for any advice for immediate or close to immediate relief. I know stretches in using a tennis ball to massage the area can't help, but I cannot do those in the shape that I am in.

Have you tried ice yet? I know many people cringe at the idea of having ice applied to them but it can help.
Good luck man. I hope it gets better. The ice may not be pleasant at all, especially at the beginning but it can work.

Sciatic issues are no good.
I deal with some numbness in my right thigh. Nothing near pain. Doctors have limited abilities and get overwhelmed by things.
Yoga might help. Depending on you age. Research remedies and explore those.
Sadly, most of us aren't heading towards great things in old age.

10 years ago it was criminal for them to leave you in pain. Now they’re scared to death to prescribe anything.
“Do yoga” is the biggest bunch of horseshit.
They act like that shit is going to beat Father Time.

There are stretches that can help. Also massages on the lower back. Often it's to do with the alignment of the hips...which can be fixed.
On your back. Knee of the side that's hurting to the opposite shoukder grab foot and yank till it feels like its pulling the nerve straight.
Also tiger balm.
The more sedentary you become the worse itll get and it's a spiral that's hard to get out of.

I know weight loss helps me. As well as moving.
Sciatica is caused by back problems. So there must be an injury. Unfortunately back injuries are difficult to mend.
When I was in highschool I went to a party. I stood on a picknick table bench to hand soneobe a lighter. The bench flipped and hit my back. I had stretch marks on my back from the hit. No idea what injuries I have.
Doctors can be so rude not even evaluating a patient. They see you and think you are ypung, assuming a lot. Medicine might be bullshit like organized religion.
Stretches can help uncompress the spine. Moving should help. Meditation if ypu can let go may also aide in pain killing brain waves. Opiates won't solve the problem,

Since you are in pain, and the nerve and the area around it may be inflamed, I would insist on applying ice. It will reduce the pain and inflammation. Because I have the feeling you can't even do any stretching right now. Once the pain becomes manageable you can start, little by little, with the stretching exercises.

I dealt with it for far to long without seeking proffesional help.
Physio massaged my lower back which released my hips and the pain was greatly reduced. She also gave me specific stretches. Bio mechanics is something you need to maintain...balance through the structure.
I'm rooted after having both shoulders and knees fully reconditioned. Plus lower slipped disc..multiple breaks and strains.
The only option for me is to remain active. If I stop for a week I go too pot. At 37 I fully expect this to be the only solution moving forward.

I had a broken tailbone and 8 breaks in my hip from a car accident prior to my two pregnancies.
The sudden weight gains from pregnancy DESTROYED my nerve and it affected my ability to walk and work.
The only thing that helped with my nerve issues was mental and emotional and physical self care days. I mean it when I say days.
I would specifically pick up an extra 8th of weed, I would buy the epson salts for a bath, I would get the essential oils... find a babysitter for my oldest and take as long as I needed for my body and my nerves to "relax" again to a normal state and then I would carry on with stretching etc.
Once i delivered, my EXTREME symptoms alleviated but I still suffer if I sleep in weird positions or my stress levels get too high.
Stretching and yoga never worked until I relaxed. They almost made it worse... I realized then stress was what was causing the physical symptoms.
hope my story helps or gives an idea on self treatment.

Thank you all for your advice and info. I've been up for just under 24 hours at this point from the pain. I am so damn tired but I can't lay down or take weight off of my other leg. Unfortunately, I smoked the last of my weed last night, I cannot drive simply because my leg can't operate the pedals at the moment, and there is about 9" of snow here now so I don't think I'll be going anywhere. I tried to knock myself out with some kratom but it doesn't seem to have worked. I concur, that the stretches I have tried to do this far have only made it worse. one of the things that I had read is that since there are multiple causes of sciatic nerve pain that the stretches can do more harm than good for some of those causes, and without an MRI to determine the cause because the doctor refused to do one I can't be sure I'm not causing more damage. I certainly can't sit down in a bath, but I may try a hot shower and see if that helps but standing up straight isn't really an option either. Anti-inflammatory meds don't seem to be doing any noticeable good either. I have today to get better before I have to go back to work tomorrow. I really don't know if that's going to happen. This is by far the worst sciatic pain I have had and has been increasing in intensity for the last 2 days. Really hoping today will be the start of recovery.

I would uber eats some really expensive really healthy really good salmon meal from a really nice place that probably just harvested it a few days ago.
and get all veggie sides if you cannot stand to cook or shower, if you have a vitamin anything that has a surplus of B's would be a really good bet.
and omega 3s (the fish but if you have fish oil).
see if you can get the nerves to settle a little bit with a boost. then move to next steps like the bath

Even though you already tried urgent care I think if that were me I’d call 911.

Get your ass to the ER. No fucking salmon or ice pack is gonna alleviate what you got going on here. I had emergency back surgery in 2014 because my nerve was wrapped around 2 herniated disks. The funny thing was that my own mom and my wife thought I was faking it. 5 years later, I still have numbness down to my big toe.

Yea I don’t get how a guy who can’t even do basic functions is suppose to sign up and attend yoga classes? If he was in the first phase with just some mild annoyance but with this condition that’s a ridiculous suggestion.
And it is a shame everyone is now forced to suffer in agonizing pain because god forbid a doctor prescribes any type of narcotics.

Update: I'm surviving .... Mobility is slightly improved but still can not stand straight or walk without a significant limp. Went to work today but promptly told to go home. I stayed and worked for 3 hours just to help out and force myself to move a bit more. Slept for 1.5 hours when I got home which is the longest stretch I've had since Saturday. It has been about 5 days since this started and I know a sciatica episode can commonly last a couple days or over a week so I'm still riding it out for now. I will try to get into a chiropractor on Sunday (recommended by colleagueals with similar issues) and see how things go. I know it has the potential of being a very serious complication that may need immediate attention, but it is what it is and I can't afford that kinda of med attention unless I know I have no other choice.

The not sleeping must be torture.
Some chiro have decompression devices. So the disk can not put pressure on the nerves.

I fucked up. Push myself way too hard at work last night. I can't stand today. Which means missing yet more work, and since it's the weekend it appears I have no choice but to go to the ER.

Stop torturing yourself do everything you have to get treatment and at this point you can’t work so you might as well work at getting better.
