Diving into oats, will these suffice?
    #26379701 - 12/13/19 04:38 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I swore I would never buy a 50 lb bag grains, just thought I could never use that much spawn and here I am returning from the feed store walking through my apartment with a 50 lb sac of horse feed (oats)

I got the entire bag for 11 bucks which was way cheaper then I had expected. They couldn’t tell me whether or not it was whole oats but said it probably wasn’t organic...

I figured since it came from the feed mill it was probably the right stuff... can someone confirm that for me?

You have confirmation. Whole Oats just means that they still have the hull on em.

bought my first 50-lber 2 days ago, I got myself red sorghum. I love how small the grains are which gives it more surface area per volume of grains.

yep you got whole oats. Ive been a whole oats guy for the longest time, until I came across sorghum.

:hereyougo:
At this point I load a homebrew  pot 1/3-1/2 full of oats. Then fill with water till it's about 4" from the rim. Set heat to high, place lid, and bring to a boil. Once a rolling boil is achieved I check for doneness. It won't be long after the boil peaks that they're good to go. Strain until dripping stops. Then spread out on a screen outside in full sun. They're well enough dry in a little while. Easy AF, dry to noc in one day.

You should get way more than 100 once hydrated.

They look like whole oats and if they were processed rolled oats they would probably cost more, so very likely you are good to go.

My jars contain roughly 200 grams of dry oats.  A 50lb bag should get me around 110 jars and costs about 12 cents per myco quart.

I see a lot of folks saying oats are finicky but only my first batch was a bit wet.  Once they start boiling I pull a spoonful out every few minutes and cut them in half with scissors.  Once 70-80 percent are no longer white in the middle I strain and start drying them.  Usually takes a few hours when spread out with a fan on them.

Bods easy AF oat prep is the most reliable.

I would soak for 30 mins and get great grains from it.

Yo I've run hundreds of lb of oats. Ask most anyone from the last year and a half, and they'll tell ya I'm the dude who was known for constantly saying "come over to the oat side"

Bod tek is good, that's where I started, but a little refinement and extra tips has certainly taken my prep to the next level.

sometimes, problems pop up when it comes to oats, they get contammed even when properly prepared and sterilized. I think there really are bad batch of oats.

That doesn't make sense. Shit won't magically survive a proper PC run.
