T. Bridgesii re-potting
    #26380014 - 12/13/19 07:07 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hey y'all, these are my poor neglected bridgesii. I sowed them from seed about 5 years ago in the same container and substrate, and they are in dire need of better living conditions. My question is, should I re-pot them separately or as a pair? I'm worried that their roots are too tangled up, and separating them could do some damage. Would it be better to wait until spring when they are getting more sunlight? Please don't report me to Cacti Protective Services, I swear I will take good care of them from now on! Thanks

Wait until the spring. If this were in a greenhouse it might be different, but its indoors and cactus pretty much shut down for the winter. I would separate them in a delicate manner when the time comes, allow them to fully dry. Its not going to hurt the cactus to sit on a counter top, bare root, for several extra days in spring.

If they are in winter sleep now you should wait until growing season starts.
And if you want to have them growing as single cactus later on then separate them when you change soil in spring.
I would give them a cactus soilmix but mixed with a bit of ordinary soil and some fertilizers (or coco choir if you add nutrients in the water).
Trichocereus can handle more moisture and nutrients than other cacti like Lophophoras and as a result they can grow much faster.
For good info on soilmixes and other cactus care look in the sticked thread USEFUL, INFORMATIVE, & INTERESTING POSTS/LINKS almost at the top in Ethnobotanical Garden section.

They are small but other than that they look good. Not are stretched or infested with bugs. Just repot them this spring and start to fertilize more often. They could easily double their size over this coming year.
