What kind of mushroom is this??
    #26378330 - 12/13/19 12:05 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Someone I knew didn't want these and gave them to me. Just wondering if anyone knew what they were or if they are safe to consume.

Doesn't look active. Dried mushrooms are very difficult to identify. Where did your friend get them and why didn't they want them?

He got them because he thought he was getting psilocybin mushrooms but he changed his mind because of how they looked. I asked another friend who grows mushrooms and he said it was most likely fine to eat but to post on here for a second opinion.

They are definitely not psychadelic. Your friend who passed on eating them made the right call. Your other friend who apparently grows mushrooms doesn't know what he's talking about.

DO NOT EAT THOSE!!
They are not a psychoactive species, they remind me of Cortinarius, and could be very toxic. Trash them ASAP.
Or first take some more pictures from all angles, I'd like to try to figure out what they could be.

As stated, we generally avoid trying to identify dried mushrooms.

You should ask the person who gave you these where they came from and if s/he possibly knows
what species they are. If you don't get a good answer, please make it clear that giving away (or selling)
mushrooms without knowing exactly what they are, can be dangerous - people might get seriously ill
or even worse.

If you can produce pictures and a description of some fresh specimens, we are always here to help you identify.

Looks very much like Agaricus Blazei (Himematsutake, Almond mushroom) to me, which is ubiquitous at asian supermarkets and used for soups.
But still, I could be completely wrong, and don't consume them unless 100% identified!

Interesting suggestion, and they look pretty similar. Appears A. blazei is synonymous with A. subrufescens. I've
never seen it either in wild or dried state, and the Asian shops where I live have mainly got Shimeji, Shiitake and Nameko.

This is how the ones I bought recently look like. What surprises me is that the spores appear whitish, while all other references I could find say they should be brownish or purplish-brown. Still look, smell and taste is spot on. Very typical is this thick white annulus, which I think one can see in the OP's picture as well.

If you look closer this is the veil covering the gills, not the gills themselves.

The gills are pale at first, then gradually getting dark brown from the spores.
