Squeezing out access water bulk substrate

I know this sounds pretty straight forward and im sure it is but i have a few questions because i had to do this to get my bulk to field capacity today. So i have my bucket full of over hydrated coir/verm at first i was just grabbing a handful and squeezing the water out back into the bucket then putting the squeezed sub into a bowl but slowly as you keep doing this the sub in the bucket is obviously becoming more and more wet to the point were you have a soup in the bottom of the bucket. So then i started squeezing over the sink but it seemed like i would loose quite a bit of the sub falling into the sink and i didn't wanna chance contam by using the stuff that fell in the sink. So im just wondering what you all do when squeezing your bulk sub to field capacity.

Drill some small holes into the bottom of the bucket and up the sides slightly. Cut the lid to fit inside of the bucket, place lid on top of the wet coir in the bucket, press down until the excess water is gone.
Coir press. Works kind of like a mop bucket press.

Coir press.works kind of like a mop bucket press which also works.
That sounds like a wicked idea i would like to get my ratio of water down to the point were i don't have to squeeze every time but until then i think ill go buy a other bucket to make one of these "Presses"

It works great, good for when you switch up coir brands or the inconsistency between batches leaves you with a big batch of over saturated coir. Just press until it barely dribbles, gtg.
I'm sure you could get pretty fancy with it if you wanted to, but this works fine.

Just get another bucket. Squeeze the water into the other one. Then when you have a pool at the end scoop up as much of that soupy coir as possible and squeeze the water out.
I use a long ice chest, I put something under one side so itβs tilted, and I squeeze the water out on the down side and all the water pools there and I put the coir I will use I a five gallon bucket. when Iβm done I squeeze whatever soup coir is left in the pool. Very simple I like the coir press idea though

Use less water and add verm straight out of the bag to adjust next time.

Ya
I just add more verm until it's where I like it if I think a batch is too wet.

The only good idea was adding verm

Not everybody has verm, or any reason to buy it. Iβve always used straight coir and donβt plan on using verm for future grows.

Its the only thing I use it for. I think its worth having on hand for that reason alone.
Why are you so against verm? Its just a mineral...

Why is it a bad idea to squeeze out the excess water? It works just fine. I mean, you might not like it for whatever reason but you can't say that it's a bad idea if it not only works but it couldn't possibly harm anything.

Who said anything about being against verm? I just donβt use it, probably never will. I donβt mind getting my field capacity correct without it.

love the bucket tek lol. maybe better to use three same size buckets- bottom is water catch (add spacers , middle is overly wet load of concern buncha holes drilled (maybe add screen on bottom if losing a lot of coir thru), then top bucket is your press.
also appreciate using verm, got a fuckton of it, like 4cu ft, gotta use that stuff somewhere

Iβve noticed there is a lot of inconsistency in coir, and I usually make big batches because the coir that is available locally comes in ~10lb blocks, usually takes 1/2 a 6$ bag of verm or less. Huge timesaver for me. YMMV.
