WBS flour instead of BR flour?
    #2637765 - 05/04/04 07:05 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I WILL be trying this when i shoot up my next batch of jars, but was just wondering ahead of time if anyone has attempted this before.

I have recently switched to using homemade brown rice flour, and will never go back to using pre-ground flour. Now, I'm wondering if homemade WBS flour could be substituted for BRF, in the PFtek.

Anyone tried it previously?
Let me know how it worked.
Again...I will be trying this in a few weeks, so I'll let you all know how it works out for me.

yes Ive done it,ive also used millet ive ground. It works well, although i personlly didnt see much differance between BRF and WBS flour.I did 12 of each and they turned out about the same.

Only downside is i doubt you can replace the BRF with WBSF because it still has tond of contam spores, and also you should rinse the starch off first with hot water.

As I said I have done it several times,I know others have as well,in fact I heard about it from Anno. Its easier to kill the endospores when the grain/birdseed is ground. You can use rye flour in the pf tek,and rye flour is nothing more than ground rye, which usually requires a PC,WBS flour works equally well, but that as I said I saw little differance between the BRF jars and the WBSF jars,so I just didnt bother anymore.Ground millet was the same way.

I saw a huge difference using ground millet (the primary ingredient in WBS) from BRF. Admittedly, I never tried grinding my own BRF, but compared to store-bought BRF, ground millet colinizes in 2/3 the time of BRF and fruits much better, and there's more flushes. Whole grain WBS kicks the living shit out of both, though. I'm about to photograph and document the process I use for making WBS quart jars, and I must say it's MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than even the PF tek. Look for it soon.

See Ive never used store bought BRF so maybe that is the major differance.

butternut, do you first soak the WBS in water for 10 mins and then rinse, let it dry and then grind, or you just grind it straight out of the bag?

MUST HAVE HELP ive been wanting to grow psilocybe azurescens for a while now and i was reading the magic mushroom growers guide it said somthing about bulk substrate growing it said to place a fully colonized cake in to steralized grain rye until the grain is colonized and put the new colonized grain in to more grain to get MASSIVE amounts of colonized grain would psilocybe azurescens mycelium colonize the rye??
