I found this giant guy in a pine forest in GA. Any thoughts on what it is?

I'm unfortunately not very familiar with US Amanita species. From pictures it looks kind of similar to A. silvicola, but from
what I understand that species occurs on the west coast, so I guess this is probably something else. Please wait for someone with
better knowledge on the genus in your area.

A tip - when picking Amanita species for identification purposes, always make sure to dig out the whole stem base, don't cut it off.

I believe Anglerfish is correct - silvacola is only out here in the west.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.
