Help! Trying to Heal Depression
    #26376637 - 12/12/19 07:13 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I have been living with depression/anxiety for 16 years. I am recently married and my husband and I want to have a child. I went off my anti depressants earlier this year (in order to conceive)  only to have spiraled into one of the deepest depressions I’ve experienced.

For the past 6 months or so I have been researching the unbelievable accounts of people healing themselves from depression with mushrooms. Long story short, I have been unable to acquire them in Western New York and growing them isn’t an option for me right now. We would like to start trying for a child but I would like to heal naturally before then rather than going back on anti depressants. Any positive advice would be appreciated.

Please note, mushrooms are not a chemical cure to depression.
Can they help? Yes. They have helped me and they have helped many others on this forum and beyond. But one thing I've learned is that there is a tremendous amount of personal work that needs to be done by the individual in conjunction with taking these psychedelic substances. A trusted guide/psychedelic therapist would be the best so that they may help guide you and give you tips on the integration of the experience thereafter.

Also, it is important to understand that, in a small percentage of people, they may trigger pre-existing mental health issues. These are indeed powerful substances, so one must know what they are expecting going in and the risks associated with it.

As for what to do, the only thing I can suggest is to sign up for a retreat in a country where it is legal if you can afford it. There you will have safe access to the substance along with guides to help you should difficulty arise.

I know the struggle, I've fought anxiety, depression and addiction my entire life. I wish you all the best, Mush love on your journey

Mushrooms work. They may not be a chemical cure for depression but neither are SSRI or any other antidepressants.

Many times it is mentioned that they can trigger pre-existing mental illness but I have not seen a study on this. There are two major independent studies that show that there is no increased incidence of mental illnesses in recreational users of psilocybin, mescaline or LSD. But this doesn't mean they haven't hurt anyone.
The thing is that we don't know much about how they work or what their limitations or potential problems are. The prohibition on these substances has limited the research in the area.

For a long time I have dealt with depression. Exercise, meditation and a healthy diet helps you feel better even though feeling better is nowhere near as feeling well sometimes. You may also want to look at supplements such as vitamin D. Another factor you may want to look into are hormonal issues. If you are taking hormonal birth control you may also want to consider it as a cause or at least a factor that could make it worse.

Have patience. Your options for mushrooms are to forage (but this is not a good time of the year to find them and you have to learn how to identify them), get them from someone else (be very careful as this could not be safe in several ways), grow them yourself (even if at the present time this is not an option you may want to look into how to make it an option in the future), or travel to a place where it is legal to buy and use them.

Welcome to the shroomery by the way.

Agreed that they work but I wanted to make sure people understand that it isn't: Take mushrooms=cured because they don't work like say, an antibiotic.

Agreed. And yes, we need more research. It isn't that the substance itself causes the triggering of latent mental issues (perhaps it may) but the fact that it can be an incredibly powerful and even traumatic experience. And there is evidence to show that traumatic experiences can cause pre-existing mental conditions to surface. I don't believe that mushrooms cause "madness" but they sure can be traumatic if a person does enough and hasn't the slightest clue of what they're in for.
