Is this jar bacterial?
    #26376529 - 12/12/19 05:08 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Took a look at the bottom of one of my pf tek jars today and it looked a bit off to me. Is this contam or just brf pressed up against the glass? Some expert eyes would really put my mind at ease

Looks like chunky brf against the glass. If its yellow its bacterial.  But unless you inoculated with a clean peice of agar, almost all brf jars are bacterial to some degree but they still produce just fine...

:whathesaid:

Looks fine, what’s in the picture is just the brf mix.

Alright cool—I thought it looked a bit yellow, that’s why I asked but I’m sure they’ll work out- was going to spawn to a shoebox with a few other cakes but if it starts to look funkier I will maybe just try to top fruit it in the jar. Cheers!

I've spawned plenty of cakes with visable metabolites and no problems... just did 12 and half had metabolites but still got about 380 wet grams from that trey...

Or atleast birth them to a sgfc if u really dont feel comfortable spawning to bulk..

Cool man thanks for the reassurance- you know how it is your first time doing something...hard to know exactly what is the margin of error, what is serious and what isn’t...

I think the jar looks OK.

Mold is serious. Bacteria making yellow slime and liquid is serious. Mild bacterial indicators are generally not serious when the cakes are fruited as cakes. It may or not be a problem if the cakes are spawned to bulk. Putting spores directly on anything is never going to be totally clean.

Where if you're alone, you know, you either come through it or you die, but in any case you avoid the fuss.'"

Just open it and smell it.
