Another wavy cap that I KNOW isn't active

BUT, I can't ID it... I TRY... I really TRY.
Habitat: Wood Chips (you KNOW what I was really looking for)
Gills: broadly attached, like me with my wife.
Stem: Thin, tough, like a super-worm from another planet.
Cap: Seductively "wavy" .... but I know better.
Spore print color: brown. Just fucking brown.
Bruising: zilch
Other information: I hate this mushroom, because it gave me a nanosecond of thrill (Psilocybe??) Nawwww. However, just look at that "double dimple." I thought for sure this would be an easy ID. Go figure.

Nice title! Kinda Irks me when I see someone say "NOT ACTIVE" When no one asked lol
Really cool mushroom! Great photos too. Where on the Globe was this mushroom found?
I would Guess Inocybe sp. if it werent for the wild texture of the stipe, smooth and very vliscid cap... :O Maybe a weird Cortinarius Sp. if I knew of one that grew on wood hmmmm...

My thoughts too. So location is South San Francisco Bay Area (San Jose). WTF fuck is it? Have to admit I admire its purity. Unclouded by conscious, remorse, or delusions of morality. (Extra points if you can name that movie).

Alien, the first one. It's what that android says about the xenomorph.

Damn! I considered that species but wrote it off. It's finally getting into my head that just because an individual mushroom has a morphological quirk like a wavy, dimpled cap, that's not necessarily a universal characteristic of the species. Also, I need to be more in tune with what trees tower over the mushrooms.
And yes, the android's name was appropriately, "Ash." Thanks!
