Bucket tek mishap

I went to go dump my boiling water in on my coir and I left the plug put on accident. (I use an insulated ice chest). So I dumped it in and noticed all my water running out the drain, I’m not sure how much I lost so I boiled an extra quart to dump in it. I know coir is like contam proof almost, but if the heat isn’t right or something, it won’t mess up anything will it? I’ve never had a mold issue with coir so I’m guessing everything will be fine.

Some people run non-cooked coir these days.. fix the field capacity and you'll be good.

I steam hydrate which is brainless. I need to make a Tek thread for that. It pains me seeing how people fuck with coir.

From my last run I had put the perfect amount of water in my brick and it was field capacity with no adjustment needed. It was an eco earth brick weighing 560g and I used 2.5 qts, and it was perfect, this new brick weighed exactly 650g, so I was planning on using 3qts which I had calculated to be pretty close to what I needed. After re-adding the lost water, it’s a little over hydrated now, not too bad, I will just leave the lid off and let some of that evaporate and squeeze out the rest, no biggy.

I spawned it today, just squeezed out the excess. It’s all good. It just pissed me off a little because I wanted to see how close I was to being right on with my calculations. I got two more tubs laying in wait so I can try to see how close I am next time. It really helps to weigh your coir to see how much they actually weigh because they are NOT all 650g (atleast the eco earth aren’t)

Yeah mine are always different, thats why I just add verm till its perfect. Every brick needs a different amount of water.
After you do a couple it gets easier to dial in.

I always rock the 5kg blocks. I get the fancy Botanicare stuff for ~$18 and it's mice and clean of debris. Anyway I have to break it up and I always weigh it. I reccomend the same.

I will look into that, I just grab it at the pet store because it’s easy, but I like the idea of having it the same every time.

Yeah good call.
I'll be looking into bulk blocks soon as these bricks are used up.

Just add more hot water if needed. Its really that easy.
I didnt put enough water during a recent Bucket Tek experience. All i had to do was add more hot water. I eventually fucked up the bucket thou, it indented on itself due to the heat of the water. And since the coir expanded, getting the coir out of the indented bucket was a pain in the ass. Shit happens .
