Cracks Easy Bags

Cracks Easy BagsFor me, Bags were intimidating. I couldn't hardly find anything on them. I pieced everything together and asked here and there and I got it figured out for me. I do it very simple and works for me. Its Super Simple. I know a lot of people use this, don't use that, fold this way, burrito that bitch, shove, stack. This IS easy. It might be a short one Let's get to it. THE BAG !!! I hope you didn't expect more, It's just a bag I fill my bags with 4 quarts of spawn, and I use this kick ass specialty tool called bottomless coffee can. I use Tyvek, just a strip down the middle. I cut up painter's suits from lowes. You can use postal Tyvek, my mail office people stare too much for my liking, I'll buy the suit. THE HARD PARTNot really, go ahead now and fix the side fold the gussets correctly and go ahead and squeeze and push the air out folding it in the center away from you. Filter towards you btw. Now unfold and insert tyvek strip between the plastic closest to you and the gusset. Let the gussest guide it down into the bag. Make sure the tyvek is in with the grain after the fold. Now fold back down like you had it folded away from you, now fold at the edge of bag folding towards you, align it to where the filter is now facing down against the bag. ]Now just fold back over and trim excess sleeve. After this fold, I place a jar or anything to weigh it down. And, guess what know all my shroomery family. DONE!!!!Now PC for 3 Hrs at 15 PSI

Nice write up. I'll probably be sticking with jars until I get a flowhood but the idea of using bags definitely intrigues me. Is there any certain way you prefer to stack them in the PC?

I'll probably add the way I PC them to the Tek. In my Earning it thread, I show a trick I I do with my SAB when doing bags.

Hey, this looks cool but as a newb I'm a bit confused and could really use an introductory paragraph about bags. Are these shroom bags from specialized vendors or can I make the square filter thing myself? Why do we need the additional tyvek insert? I'm sure that's all pretty basic but I feel a short explanation or maybe a link to one would make this a more accessible TEK!

I have also sonm questions: 1.- I don't see very well how it works in the pc, i mean, how do you close hermetically the bag. 2.- Also, what kind of bag is that? Because I have used plastic bags for the oven on pc and not all brands work. 3.- And also I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but I really don't understand what's the porpose of Tyvek. What it is for?

I will add a little more to the Tek, including how I PC the bags, and should answer your questions.

No, that I don't. I'm sure it works perfectly, just never tried it. The way I do mine is super simple though. I'm thinking of writing up a oat Tek. This is a picture of my oat bag coming straight out the PC after completely cooling.

I havenβt used it in a long time either, otherwise pretty much the same as I do it. But I recently discovered if you switch to wheat or rye you can fit about 15% more grain by weight into each run, those oat hulls take up alot of volume.
Also noticed with thinner presto or Mirro cookers the cool down as an important aspect and if it happens too fast then bags will pop.
Havenβt had any issues in the All American PC yet. I was a presto fanboy until I started using bags.

I wrap my bags in a pillow case before pressure cooking. If the touch the sides on my pc, they melt. It's happened with every type of bag I've tried, so use caution. Also, I use the all American PC. I use plastic clips to keep the bags closed. The bags can deffinatly pop, when a vaccume is created.
I use bags for my LC. It works fucking amazing. Pour the lc, then shake the fuck out of it and boom, done, full 66qt ready. Also I don't use the bag sealer. I use a zip tie and it works amazing.

If you are using an AA and have to wrap your bags in pillow cases to keep them from melting, you are either; using shitty bags (i use unicorn) cooking with WAY too high a flame while coming to pressure running low on water running at WAY too high a psi or any combination of the above.
I do unicorn bags in an AA94 and don't have to keep my bags off the walls. They DO NOT melt on me, EVER

I'll start with this one π I've tried it without the sleeves and Everytime the bag bursts, I don't know if it's the tyvek or what. I get my bags made, throw in PC, place 2 plates on top for weight, close the lid, turn on high, once the click clack areas going, I turn it down, 3 hours, I turn it off and leave on the hot eye of the stove. I also place jar rings that the four corners to keep from touching just cause I'm scared of melting it. I use the .2 micron from a trusted supplier from Florida. Don't wanna name drop.

Excellent Crack, thanks for this. I am just starting with bags and having some issues with finding info and trial\error.
Noob question: 3 hours for bags? Is this because there is more grain? I have always done jar and bags for same amount of time (1.5hour) so perhaps that is part of my problem. Again, thanks for sharing. Definitely helpful as I will be pcing bags tonight.

looking at doing bags so thank you for this.
Only question at the mo is this line "I fill my bags with 4 quarts of spawn" i am assuming this is not spawn but prepared grain?
Thanks again will keep an eye out for how you do your oats as this is what i am using at the mo.

Yes, sorry I'll have to fix that. 4 quarts of prepped grain. Something else I need to put there maybe, when doing grain bags, you want your grain a little dryer. Which I'll explain in my oat Tek, it's super simple and requires minimal effort for perfect oats. I'll be putting that Tek out in the next few days. If anyone is interested beforehand feel free to PM me and give you a short, no picture guide.

Nice! I was just about to start researching how people do bags.
After your bags colonize do you mix with a substrate and move it to a box?
That's most likely what I'll do.
I'm going to PC my bags with no tyvek and see if they hold up. But def throwing them in a pillow case or something.
Thanks for the tek!

Nice. I spent $200 on bags and they both melt. Idk what brand they are. I thought the big ones were high end. My AApc is not electric. It sits on a burner. I put plenty of water. I don't mind using pillow cases. But it was a huge mess discovering thats how I need to do it. Not to mention grain and wasted bags. I do good now. Not really any complaints. I'll check out unicorn once I use all these bags up in like 2 years lol

I just started using bags. It was hard to find all the info to make me feel comfortable using them. I fold mine accordion style. I thought the filter sleeve was for a filter when the bag cools. It sucks air into it and the filter helps keep the air coming in clean. Idk. It helps them from popping? I am only on my 4th bag. I ordered off eBay. Two different packs of 10. I love them so far. Thanks for writing this Tek. Can't wait till it's fully completed.

Thank you, if I don't use the sleeve mine pop for some reason, or I'll have areas of the bag that are very stretched and very thin to handle, especially to mix after inoculation.

so I ran some bags in the pc yesterday like this. if theres brown water (looks like grain soak water) does that mean a bag popped? can't seem to find holes anywhere.

Picture? If you loaded a little wetter you may have some settle to the bottom of the bag while PCing. If you have a hole, its usually pretty easy to find.

ohhh, ok. Youre probably good. Mine does that but its usually rust from my rings or trivet or other spacers Ive made. when you inoculate your bag youll be able to tell if your bag holds air. If that makes sense. Almost like checking a grocery bag if it has a hole before you keep it or throw away.
