I have some cakes that have contaminated. They havent fully collonized yet. Can I take them out of the jars, cut out the contams and uncollonized verm, dunk and fruit?
May 9
Here are some pix of the cakes that were contaminated. I cut all the bad stuff out and dunked in 50/50, water/peroxide for 12 hours. The water was fizzing like mad! I then replaced the water with a fresh batch of 50/50 for another 12 hours. Not much fizzing this time. I then took them out and sprayed them with some peroxide and there was no fizzing so I put them in a little fruiting chamber by themself.
They have been in the F/C for about 3 days now and seem to be doing good.
Here are 2 that had the worst contams.

Carefull with those contams! You should definately wear a good particulate mask and work somewhere without any breeze that will move that stuff around. Putting the cake directly from the jar into a ziplock bag and doing surgery inside might keep from spreading that stuff around somewhat.
I have seen pasteurized substrate work wonders when carefully cleaned contamed cakes are spawned into them. Carefully remove the good part of the cake and dunk it in hydrogen peroxide solution. Crumble it into the pasteurized substrate and let the good bacteria within help the myc beat those contams. Might work for you depending on the type of contamination you have. Good Luck

Some times it will tick you and think its all gone, only to birth the cake and find it rotten thru the middle.
Best bet is to just pitch it at fist sight of nastyness. Keeping it around only gives it more time to spore up and infect more stuff.
