First Shiitake Log try. Contamination?
    #26374765 - 12/11/19 10:19 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I bought 2 mushroom logs online that are supppsed to fruit quickly. I soaked this one under cold water for 24 hrs and then have been misting it daily to keep the bark moist. Humidity has been around 85 and temps at 70. Its been about 5 days.

I thought that the white spots were the myc at first but theyve stopped growing the last 2 days. Is this contamination? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm definately no expert, but I see that fungus appearing every year in late autum and winter on dead damp wood logs and old tree bases in woodland and old rotting fence panels when there has been many days of rain. Does it smell mushroomy?

The bark of that wood, most likely has other spores etc, and the soaking and spraying of the wood is making it grow, give it another few days max and if the growth has spread, I'd scratch it off carefully, and don't let it get around the wax areas!

Hopefully someone with experience will come along and enlighten us?

Good luck and keep us posted
