Lion's Mane in bag on top of woodchips
    #26374946 - 12/11/19 12:04 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hi,

This is my first Lion's Mane grow.
There is this pretty weird formation on top of the bag. It looks like a sort of coral formation. They have been colonising for almost 4 weeks now.

The bottom of the bags was not yet colonised so I didn't make a slit in it yet. Am I right to assume this is ready to fruit?

Any suggestions?

It is starting to fruit in the bag. So yes fruit the bag. If the bottom of the bag is not colonized. It most likely won't colonize. Probably too much moisture in the bottom of the bag for it to colonize. Pull off the fruits that have started because they were not getting enough FAE they did not form properly so toss them. Then fruit the bag.

Thank you, i just made the slits in the bags.
I was thinking the bottom part didn't colonise because of lower temperature at the bottom of it, as they are simply on a shelf. I don't see a lot of moisture in it, but I could be wrong of course.

It could have some contamination in the bottom or too much moisture. Either way, it was done colonizing so it started to fruit.

Is it advised to open the bag from the top as well when fruiting or is a slit on the side enough?

I do slits to try and keep the fruiting spots small. Opening the top will cause it to fruit all over which will give you smaller fruits.
