Xacto blades get dull fast. I doubt you could cut much of anything besides agar after 2 sessions.

I pour mine a little deep so that isnt an issue. Ive recently had a few plates get bacteria without opening them after the pc. I believe they had pooling water. And ive also been working through some pc issues so i blame that. But ive had about 10 plates do this in a few batches.
Ill refute your exacto claim with โive used my same blade for over a year now. The previous blade lasted me a year or more as wellโ
I only use exactos. But i only use them for agar transfers also so i guess im kinda backing up your claim as well lol.

increase your sterilization time, i had the same issue and found they just needed more time in the PC.

Yeah It wasnt that. The burner was too hot. There was no in between 20psi and 13 psi with one notch turn on the stove. I think its at its lifes end. Smallwr burner works consistently at 15psi. Ive already fixed the issue.
Ive got a box of 50 replacement blades for exacto and ive only used two in years lol.

I had 8 from the original vendor. 5 currently have cultures in them.
I received 20 from the "defective lid" vendor. The lids fit my other containers just fine, even after the others have been through the PC before. I don't see a difference in the lids, myself.
I Put 23 in my VERY small pressure cooker.
I couldn't possibly fit more than exactly 23.
I Vented steam for 10 minutes, then put the weight on, and started the timer when the weight started shaking. I PC'd them for 30 minutes at a very slow jiggle with 1 quarter on top of the weight.
After 30 minutes, I turned off the heat and took the weight off. I took them out as soon as the PC unlocked, stacked them 23 tall on a flat service, and didn't have any container to go around them.

Most of them look like this. The top couple I used the shake trick. I will see if they contam.

Thank you for this TEK.

Please report back on if they contaminate or not
I'm hoping more people experiment with this so that if it works consistently, it can perhaps be added to the TEK. Of course that is up to Mr. Alien and should only be included if enough people report on it working for them.

Yeah I love these, all I do are no-pours, and these are all I use now. I used to do them in mini glass jars, but nothing can beat these for no-pours!!! For me personally, I don't see the use of having to go through the trouble of doing pours when I can do everything the same with these. Just wanted to throw in my love for them and say I love these fucking things!!!

We should open up a thread for culture sharing (edible) in HG petris for HG enthusiasts! Is actually a double gift, the culture and the HG petri (as part of equipment), is a fun way to spread the word about the HG petris too. This will also stimulate the market and incentivize HG petris manufacturers to improve it. Wouldn't you guys like a wider version too? Or maybe a Polystyrene (pp6) version? I have a pp6 autoclavable flask, and the plastic is very thick and i still can look thru it.
Here is a picture of that autoclavable plastic (pp6).

You can look thru it and see my hand with a lot of details, the pp5 plastic instead looks very whiteish, not that clear.
Well, just a few ideas. Cheers.

If they were PP6 it would make sense to me for these, maybe slightly wider versions of these, to become the market standard for working with agar. It just makes sense for larger mushroom growing operations since they don't have to be constantly buying more.
I really hope these become more commonplace/available on the market
It's too bad to hear that sharing edible cultures is against the rules @Mr. Alien maybe you received the notice by mistake? (re: verum's comment)

Hola Mr. Alien
Thanks again for the great tek. Please don't take this as a criticism, but I think the preferred term is "gourmet and medicinal" mushrooms rather than edible. I think that the term edible has been opted by the cannabis cult to mean THC infused food, so mushroom growers have been using the term gourmet to avoid confusion.
I am looking to get into gourmets myself as a semi-retirement hobby if I can make a few bucks at it on the side. So I am down with the new thread plan.

I PC'd 42 HGs yesterday and it went very well. I used seven, un-lidded quart jars, holding six HGs each. PCd for an hour and change after venting. I waited an lids and then screwed the jar back on. It was pretty much as expected...a good number of plates can be used immediately and the rest had varying degrees of condensation.
My method for dealing with the jars with the most extensive condensation is to place four HGs next to each other, in a square, and then put a pan or pyrex dish filled with hot water on top of the square. Alternately, create stacks of four and put the pan/pyrex on top of the stacks. I typically will refill the hot water and then let the water go to room temperature. I've played around with restacking them and have found that this gets rid of a great deal of condensation. Invariably condensation happens but I think this knocks a few days off of any waiting period. Any pooling, I shake out by unscrewing the lid and flicking my wrist.
This is a great tek!! I don't know if I would be doing agar without it. Each time I do it, it gets easier and more refined.
