DMT for someone depressed
    #26371842 - 12/09/19 08:19 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

So I met this woman online that is depressed, is desperate to get out of it. I recommended her to change her diet, start exercising, and try mushrooms. She wanted to do the mushrooms, but doesn't want to do it alone, asked me to be with her. I told her I dont have the time to sit her on a mushroom trip. And frankly the idea to sit 6h or 7h on the trip of someone I dont even know is not too appealing to me, simply for the risk involved. What if she has a horrible trip you know? But I offered her I'd sit her on a DMT trip, it's just much shorter  I think mushrooms would be more therapeutic and I told her that, but a good DMT experience could perhaps prepare her for a mushroom trip alone. And maybe will actually help with her depression. She wants to do it tomorrow. So it's gonna be like taking the first psychedelic drug ever, DMT, with someone you just met. But she really wants to do it. Thoughts?

I think your first set of advice was good.

Dont blow her head of with dmt just because you're not willing to sit her.

Find somebody who can really help.

I can say this: DMT cured my own depression. although it was with syrian rue and orally, so trips were a lot longer. Definitely had some great insights on it, and it eased my own fears that many people without a religion have: what happens when you die? is that it, is it all pointless?

DMT helped me overcome that fear. I strongly suspect that there is no End, just an end. took way too much once and blacked out completely (protip: the salt form is much more bioavailable than freebase. I was taking like 1 gram almost of freebase because that's how much it took to get a strong trip... tried the same thing with the salt form and WHOOPS.) anyways, it worked out for the best. before that, i'd never in my life lost consciousness before. if i was tired and wanted to sleep, i'd sleep when i chose too, never involuntarily. i'd never blacked out or anything, and i had this weird fear that being suddenly being knocked out would "kill" me and the person that woke up after would be like...someone with my memories but not actually me. i am happy to report that it's not the case - i still am the same me after waking, which kind of boggles my mind.

that also helped me overcome my fear of anesthesia and doctor visits in general, so now i got my septoplasmy and can breath properly for the first time in my life. (still me after anesthesia too - was really weird, i was perfectly fine and alert for one second then nothing the next til i woke up again.)

It really made me wonder just what makes up consciousness. i know on another trip with DMT it gave me the feeling that it's important for us to be honest with ourselves and figure out what we want to do, no matter how impossible - because eventually, our beliefs and hopes become real, either in this life or the next. believe you'll die and go to heaven? you will, pearly gates and all. believe you don't deserve such rewards and will burn? your fears will manifest. feel like you're going to reincarnate, memories intact? you will.

It's important to decide what heaven means to you and work toward that dream, lest your fears and masks you throw over yourself to "fit" in society decide for you.

I think the scientists who believe in a multiverse have it right - everything exists in some form and when you die, you simply travel to a new reality based on beliefs. you could meet god. you could BE a god. you can simply choose to live out a fantasy of your own making, or immerse yourself in anothers. you could keep your memories of your previous life, or start afresh.

It's as if existence's sole (soul?) purpose is to experience everything - every possibility, every combination, like number lines in different dimensions stretching to infinities. which is also why art is so important - when you create a story, it's like you're giving life to an actual world, or at least making that worlds story known to ours - connecting distant worlds together. you can't really say its one or the other, because it's like a circle - time has no beginning or end.

I can certainly see why so many scientists are so afraid of a multiverse being the true nature of reality though. quite literally any perspective you have is the true one, even when different perspectives seemingly conflict.  :nut:

If you were really considering it, explain basically what it’s known for and what can possibly be expected, and make the dosages very small and don’t rush the dosage.

I'm a total noob regarding DMT, but what I've read has generally said that smoked DMT doesn't really provide the kind of healing experience she's looking for, although it does seem to leave a positive afterglow for many.

And anyway there's quite a lot more to using psychedelics to heal depression than just taking them. If she doesn't understand all of this already, I'd recommend a long list of reading material and good audio interviews with people who lay it all out properly, so she at least has some kind of understanding what the deal is before jumping into it.

DMT especially Anahuasca can work wonders for depression, providing a much needed life/death jolt that can make a person realize how lucky he is to be alive. But it will also scare one shitless as it does this, as that is the jolt.

But personally I'd be more concerned with meeting up with some random internet stranger. Who the hell knows who she is, or how she will react? There are certainly people out there who should not under any circumstances be using such things.

The whole psychedelics curing depression thing is a bit dubious for me, because although as stated above I do believe it can work, it's also not something I would proscribe or make myself in any way responsible for. I'm pretty sure it also goes catastrophically wrong from time to time, as well....

yaaaa... DMT for someone first time psychadelic. I wouldn't do it. It's an intense drug. Microdosing mushrooms might be a better beginner option; a good glimpse on what the psychadelic experience is about. Maybe they are ready for a little DMT, but you met them, so who knows

Plenty of people do DMT as their first psych and deal with it just fine. It's not like taking any other psych will prepare you for DMT anyways.

Meeting people you don't really know who have mental issues and trip sitting them sounds like a pretty average idea though. So much that can go wrong. Bad mojo.

Well, I have known this person for like a year. Only talked online, from time to time, and I have a picture of how she is, its not like she is a total stranger, just we never met in person. Like I have an idea of how somebpeople are in these forums from their posts  And I'm good at reading people. I like her because she can be funny and doesnt take herself seriously.

She said her depression and anxiety is very severe lately and she is "desperate to change her mindset and thought patterns", she'd try anything. And I think that if DMT is good at something, it is at changing one's mindset and thought patterns, right? Even a horrible experience could give her gratitude for being alive. Who the hell knows. And if the experience is blissful and amazing, I think she is set. She'll do mushrooms.

I told her the experience will be very intense and might well be terrifying, she doesnt care. And I think that might actually be the right mindset to go into it. She seems ready to let go. I also told her psychedelics are not going to make her depression magically dissapear. She'll have to do the work. But they might show her the path and direction she'll have to take. I guess her view is that desperate times call for desperate measures, and I kind of agree. I take DMT for fun, for fucks sake  if I was depressed I'd totally give it a go.

And I never do charity, but I'm just trying to be a good samritan for once. And frankly, I'm also curious to see how its gonna work out. And I obviously take zero responsibility if anything goes wrong. I'm not gonna feel bad. I made that clear. It is all her choice. I'm only helping her do what she wants.

I'll also let her choose the dosage. If she wants to take a peek, or go for the bereakthrough, her choice. But I suspect she'll go for the latter.

And thanks for the answers guys

Good luck but I'd suggest meeting her first and getting a feel for each other. Plenty of people have great chemistry online and none in person (and vice versa).

Furthermore, although you said you'll take no responsibility if things go wrong, you have to realize that you can still be put at risk. Does she have a psychotic break and become violent? Does she freak out and start screaming for help, putting you in the position to explain what is happening should someone come to the aid of the screaming person? Plus (assuming you are providing the substance) providing people you've never met with illegal substances is risky (its risky irregardless but higher if you don't truly know the person).

Your intentions are good (hopefully) and if you go through with it I hope that it all works out.

if you're giving them the substances to trip with, you can't just say you aren't responsible. If you don't want to have any responsibility, then you probably shouldn't give it to them

Yes definitely without any question, do not be the person to provide her with DMT. I’d give the same advice even if she was your sister to be honest! Personally I would never give it to anyone...

There's hardly anything bad that could physically happen in the 5 minute window of a DMT trip. If they have a strong negative reaction they'll be too incapacitated to do much. And then 15 mintues later they'll know whether or not psychedelics are for them in their state.

But I've seen successful DMT trips make people believe crazy things, so if she's already in a position with nothing to lose and the trip gives her a radical message and it's the most powerful message she's ever felt then there's potential for delusion. But the message could also be exactly what she needed, so who knows.

If I had a friend in that position I would take Ayahuasca with them, but it doesn't sound like you wanna get that invested. That has extra risks with the MAOI and long duration, but more potential to be therapeutic without breaking her mind.

I did it as my first psychedelic and rode it out perfectly. I wouldn't give any of it to anybody else unless I know them and they know what they're in for. DMT can really change people. Just one 5-10 minute trip can change somebody.

I've met people I've only ever spoken to online and gone to festies and done drugs together, all sorts of things. Nothing unusual there. I think lots of people have.

If you're not getting any bad vibes about it Inflation, get for it man. Trust your instincts hey. But if you meet her and your instinct starts telling you no you can always change your mind, just talk with her, then whatever, see what happens.
