Habitat:
Landscaped area with irrigated decomposing woodchips bordering grass in shopping center

Gills:
Light brown, attached

Stem:
Light brown to black, 2cm long, 1-2mm

Caps: Carmel colored, darker umbo present, convex to flat with maturation, 1-1.5cm diam

Spore print color: not done

Bruising:
Stem bruised black, but cap did not appear to bruise

Other information:
Found in Norcal

If the spore print is white, it's probably the same as the mushroom I found - Laccaria lacata. Flammulina velutipes seems a little too bright-colored to me, although I'm no expert.

Is the stipe hollow?

Possibly Galerina, but the pictures aren't really good though. Better lighting and in situ shots would help. Please take a spore print.

Laccaria is also possible I think, but if I'm right I think I see some veil remains on the stem.

Aren't the gills of laccaria usually decurrent or at least attached? These look rather free or at least adnexed.

You tell me:


These are considered to be Laccarius lacata (or at least that's what the general consensus is). They look quite similar to the mushrooms shown, save for the color/bruising of the stipe. From my (lowly) understanding, these gills are adnexed.

This is Galerina, the gills are adnexed.

Galerina is what I was thinking. I know their stems can bruise black but they dont bruise anywhere else. Thankfully this isnt near any actives just something I was curious about. I know I need better pics but this is a cheap phone. Thanks though.
