Dominican Republic Help identifying some of these mushrooms
    #26370910 - 12/09/19 01:07 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hi, I am new to this forum.

Hello Shroomers!

I had shrooms before on various occasions.
Just never consumed anything that I "hunted" myself.

I live in the dominican republic and there is just farms, horses and cows around. And right now there is a lot of white caps & others popping out of the horse manure.

I have taken some photos and would like to get some help from you experienced guys in identifying what I have here.
I know that I comply fully with the ID'ing request rules.
If you guys could have a brief look and let me know what would be worth digging into deeper, I will do so.

thank you.

If you guide me towards what would possibly be worth identifying I will go further in providing the following:

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color:
Very important!

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

please bare with me, photos are on their way.

Spore print is vital to get any further information... Consider bruising color if at all and most importantly photos do help tremendously

Thise large white ones are Agaricus species. I can't see enough of the others to say what they are.

Thanks guys!
I am working on more photos.

I have cut the stems and took photos with a tape emassure next to them.

Also I am working on my first spore print ever.
They are on a sheet of paper in the fridge.

I am new to this and thankful for any hints and suggestions.

Is there a way to upload more than just one photo at a time?

When doing a spore print im not sure if being in the fridge will help or not ...but I usually put mine at room temperature with a glass on top of the cap with minimal wind interference.

I agree with Agaricus for the big ones, and the little ones with the white gills looks like Leucocoprinus species.

The two partially hidden ones in pic 3 look interesting though - looks like an active Panaeolus species. Do you have any more pics of these?

sorry for not showing some of them properly or not the other side.
I will correct that.
But I can only upload one photo at a time with the phone.
It takes forever.

First two pictures in your recent request is an Agaricus species, I'm guessing A. abruptibulbus or something close (due to the bulbuous stem base).

3rd picture looks like a Panaeolus species, is that blue bruising I see on the stem? Better pictures of these would help.

4th picture looks like either Coprinellus or Psathyrella.

Very interesting forum with a lot of great biologists!
Thanks for helping me out here.

I just successfully did my first spore print.
Do you guys have access to my photo folder named: dominican_republic_shroom_hunting ?

The top row are Panaeolus species. I'm pretty sure I see blue bruising which would indicate they are a psychoactive species. In any case they are not toxic, unless you consider psychoactivity a toxic reaction, which I presume you don't.

Looks like Panaeolus species. Do they bruise blue? What were they growing on?

I found those in some horse dung.
not super fresh one. the horse hasn't been here for 2 weeks.
The climate is very humid these days. It rains every day, and a lot.
Where they grow it is well covered from the sun, direct sunlight never gets there and it never gets dry there.

I think my 2-day spore print in the fridge went very well, what do the experts say?
https://files.shroomery.org/files/19-50/627071069-IMG_20191213_160808.jpg

Is there a forum statistic of trusted identifiers identifying a psilocybin mushroom for someone, and those people never logging into the forum again?
Looks like I am going to have a fun-weekend!

for the bruising, I will check tomorrow.

The blue bruising ones in the third shot are an active panaeolus species. Those are the only "good" ones. Find more like those!

I can't tell what the one on the left is, but if it is a Panaeolus, it's not an active one because the spore print is brown.

The one in the middle could be an active Panaeolus, but it's hard to tell from the dried specimen. Which mushroom in your other photos does this one correspond to?

Thanks guys. I hope you were all right.

I am flying today. Economy only (15g fresh). Didn't want to go on an unprepared space mission just after breakfast.
I thought a small handful of shrooms with the morning coffee would be all I need for a pleasant saturday.
I am sitting in my seat, seat belt and no smoking signs are on and I am waiting for departure (40 minutes already).
Probably I should eat the entire 50g that I have?

They work great. 15g is on the very low side though. I ate another 15g after 4 hours.
I think I will be fine with an initial dose of 50g?

Just been walking around the house with my morning coffee again.
Some have a slightly different color.
But they bruce blue.

Does everything look OK in the photos from today?

If that's bluish bruising then yes, 50g fresh is a lot for Panaeolus cyanescens group, I dry mine and can only handle about 2g maximum or 20g fresh and I have been doing it a long time.

It has been my experience and the experience of many others that taking more shrooms a couple hours after the initial dose will be a waste of good mushrooms. I get one shot,  if the dose isn't enough or weak shrooms,  I will have to wait a week to try again,  2wks is even better in my experience because it gives time to clean out the receptors in the brain.

5g fresh is like 0.5g dried. These mushrooms are pretty potent, but that would still be a very light trip.

like I wrote before. 15g didn't do it at all. I had another shot of 15g 4 hours afterwards.  30g will bit be enough for me. but I like it super intense. more is better. I'll aim for 50g for christmas.
but I had always been the one that didn't feel enough of 2 pills when others were going off on 1/2.
it was very light trip. I had to stare at a stone wall to find optical illusions. when it is sufficient then everywhere I look is like looking inside a can of worms.
but yeah I guess topping up is not as good as one good shot.

I can see black bruising, or is that blue for you guys? I found one today though that looked different and bruised blue within minutes. I will upload photos tomorrow.
wherever I walk I find shrooms. It is super wet and relative cold.
the sun is at about it's lowest altitude right now, nothing dries and it's nice and moist.
I will find another 50 mushrooms tomorrow. I hope I can save them for christmas and new year and don't just eat them out of boredom.
without doubt I could find a kilo till christmas.

could you guys see anything in the photos that could be potentially dangerous?

This is good to go, pan species are not poisonous..the worse that would happen is u wouldnt trip if there are non actives mixed in

thanks guys for all your help. seems like you are doing a great job, I am still here.
what do you guys think of my daily findings?

the ones in picture 4 that are still standing, I didn't touch. I think they can be good but potentially bad as well?

what are those in picture 3 where they bend upwards?

picture 1 & 2 have one of them that is still standing in picture 4. can you spot it? not shure if I threw that out before I put that in the fridge?

I don't want to mess my new years evening up with a look alike.

I see one Conocybe mixed in with pic 1&2 its the one with orange colored gills.
The rest look like Panaeolus cyanscens.

As far as #3  im not sure what those are turned up. Just make sure they all have black spores and bruising blue.

Would need better pics but..In pic 1 and 2 its possible you may have a couple panaeolus antillarum mixed in which also grows from dung but is usually heavier, thicker, bigger than panaeolus cyan and will not bruise blue..Looks like at least 1 conocybe also mixed in there. Im also not sure what u have in pic 3 either, could be way past its prime panaeolus species but need better pics of it.

@shrooms28 50g fresh doesn't equal 0.5g dry weight of mushrooms, mushrooms are 90% water, 10% of 50 is 5 not 0.5 so it would be 5g.

The golden ones I haven't touched yet. I will make a spore print now.
The other that don't bruise can they be potentially bad?
Have you guys seen anything in the photos that could be possibly a look alike and dangerous? Besides the golden. Golden don't bruise.

In the last 2 photos I have separated bruising and non bruising ones. The bruising ones have 2 non bruising ones to the right?
Still, would the non bruising ones OK for consumption?
According what you guys wrote before they are but would have no effect?
Anything that could go wrong here, look alike & ...

Thanks for all your help. Let me know in case any of you comes my way and I'll show you where the "good shit" is.

You have to let the cap sit for 6-8hrs minimum for a spore print and up to 36hrs.
Can't see enough details but I think u have a conocybe species but better pictures are needed. Close up clear shots of the cap, gills and stem are important using natural light because artificial light distort colors,  in situ photo is very helpful.

thank you, everything went in the garbage. They were printing since friday, in the refrigerator though.

too risky I think ...

2 or 3 days in the refrigerator for the print worked fine with the other ones before.

Yeah that's plenty of time even in the fridge.

I had 13g fresh on friday. guaranteed no panaeolus antillarum in my pile. I think that was plenty!? could have been the rum also?
next time I will do it sober.
Is 13g a lot, I am still hung over and have a metallic taste in my mouth?
