Bottom line is, things always change, and it's easy to romanticize what was or what could be.  Grass is always greener on the other side, as it's often said.  Nevertheless, the proliferation of our "always available" paradigm via the internet generally, and cell phones specifically, has been a pretty big game changer.  While it does have some positive attributes with regard to general inclusion across all societies and class systems, I am not a big fan of its effect on the social landscape and the way it has rather starkly changed our primary modes of interaction.

This.

I graduated HS in 1995, and consider myself fortunate to have lived during the transition of "Modern Classic America" through the Digital Age over the past generation--

It is a bittersweet experience to know that we are now a part of that receding tide of memory of what came before the internet, watching live as it changed the world and became ubiquitous... and it's strange to acknowledge that our memories will be (hell, already are being) packaged into the same kind of bite-sized, distilled, marketable memes and cliches that we all remember the 60's and 70's as being when we were kids.

It is a brave new world.... ever more distant from our own.

Now I'm going to go curl up in my happy cocoon and listen to Nirvana: Unplugged in New York.

Kthanks for the memories :headbanger:

There were movies released on VHS with bonus stuff and footage that might not be available to CD's.

I own this-- I don't think it exists outside of VHS

Well said.  I graduated in '04, right there behind you.  It's funny how long those years felt back then compared to how quickly they blow by now.  Every year that I see kids starting school again it blows my mind how fast their graduation comes up.

I believe the period you live through during puberty will always be special for you.

I read an article claming the music you listened to during puberty will always bring the strongest emotions. I turned 16 in '97 so for me its nineties music, but my girl is 6 years older, so for her its late eighties

The music that does that for me came out before I was born
