I'd rather be selfish, because then I wouldn't need to focus on others.
Judgemental people seem to need someone to abuse all day long, or else they self-destruct

I prefer connotations over denotations.

Those are not the same thing... Could you elaborate?

right, what would you choose from different baskets you offered two from the same basket - selfish and judgmental, are both in a category of social dysfunction

I’d rather be full of myself than going around spewing negative projections at people but I’m not sure what distinction there is between these two things, other than in letter. They are intimately related. Enlightened selfishness I’d say is a good thing. Saviors and evangelists are so judgmental.

So if somebody is unselfish they aren’t judgemental. I find that hard to believe.

op you are right that a person should watch out for their well being, that is not the same as being selfish,
I do not see this as a matter of projection at all.
and judgmental, well, every perception is a judgement or an assessment of some kind. this is not what is meant by a person behaving judgmentally. That is very much about projecting a persona that accuses and punishes or pardons other poor slobs.

They're both on the same side of the coin, how can you separate?
If you're selfish it's because your judgmental, which isn't a bad thing, it's completely appropriate considering the world is full of danger and risk.

Everyone is selfish. Everything a person does is either seen as necessary for some selfish want or is the want itself.
Even the most altruistic act confers some benefit onto the actor.
I see a difference between that and being self centered which connotes a disregard for the wants or sensitivities of others.
Everyone is judgmental. Everything a person considers is judged in some fashion. The lack of judgment for another human being, regardless of their qualities or acts, is a judgment of the basic good we see in humanity. "Judgmental" as a social negative is generally taken to mean judging the human as bad for qualities or acts for which one disapproves. Albeit fear based, this does serve a survivalist and social purpose yet is inherently irrational to some degree.
So, IMO being selfish is good when one works to get what they want while also being considerate of others and being judgmental is good when one doesn't sacrifice their rational integrity in the process.

if a person watches out for their own well being, that is not at all the same as being selfish.
if a person tends to watch out for their own well being, they probably would also watch out for others in a similar way.
I think you are into the right direction with your comment, but dragging the word 'selfish' antonymously.

I dont think selfish and judgemental is the same thing. I mean clearly they are different words so they by definition have to be different. Lol.
If I asked you "Would you rather be invisible or opaque?" everyone in this thread could determine which one they would like to be and that is vastly more similar to each other than selfish and judgemental.
Right? Or am I missing something?
I feel like the question could be expounded to "Would you rather never share with people and hurt people to get ahead or tell people what you think they are doing wrong all the time?" In which case I (and I assume most people) would prefer the former.
It amazes me how often on this forum people get lost in the fundamentals of philosophy/psychology/sociology. The "we are all inherently selfish" concept on full display here lol. Maybe we are all too knowledgeable for our own good.

Mommy please can't I be both. I've watched so many movies about hit men that I think it looks like a lot of fun, to get to do both. I mean these movies sell, and Netflicks is full of them, it must mean folks love this stuff. I don't just want to judge and be selfish, I want to fucking kill. Maybe being a soldier would be better?, then I can judge, & kill, and be selfish by enjoying the respect I get for being a patriot. Now a days there are even tough girl soldiers to harass; it sounds like a win win to me! And best of all if I manage to be in the right place at the right time in a foreign country, I just might get to do a little torture of the dumb bastards that dared to fuck with my country. The slower I can do it the better. Maybe better than sex, I'm excited already. Can't beat being both selfish and judgmental.
