Best way to store after dehydrating?

Once the mushrooms have been dehydrated cracker dry, what is the best way to store them? In a cool dark place like the refrigerator? Or in a dark place that is room temperature? What are some of the things how you guys do it?
Also, I just soaked and dunked my tub last night and put it back for the second flush. Do I need to start misting right away?

I keep mine vacuume packed in a drawer room temp. You don’t need to start misting right after a dunk, it should already be soaked in good. Just mist when it starts looking on the dry side.

I don’t have a vacuum sealer, so would a ziplock bag in the refrigerator be good? Also whenever I harvested I did by hand, so some of substrate ripped up, a few exposed grains. I hope everything is still going to turn out fine for a second flush.

The colder and darker, the better. In vacuum seal bags, if you got em, with desiccant and oxygen absorber packs, if you got em.

A ziplock in the fridge should be fine. Throw some desiccant packs in the bag. Surely you have some in products you have around.
You can dry them out and re use them by putting them in the oven at 200F for a few hours.

Jars are the best storage device as they are airtight. Add a desiccant for extra security. The problem with vac-seal bags is that the layer that keeps them airtight can be damaged and then they lose their preservative quality over other plastic bags. Further they aren't easily opened and reclosed. Only hassle with jars is the bulkiness. I keep em in half gallon jars until I transport them in vac-seal or gallon freezer bags, always with silica packets.

There is too much moisture in a fridge and ziplocks aren’t reliable in-fact not even close. The grip seal bags are better but get the double sealed bags and double bag for extra security.
I keep fresh fruits in fridge not dried, that’s just weird to me. Considering the active chemicals degrade with heat levels past the boiling point of water, storing properly dried fruit does not need special attention. The other problem is spoilage...It just has to be dry and kept some where dark but that’s obviously standard practice of food knowledge

Are the silica gel packs allowed to touch the mushrooms?

The pack yes, silica itself no.
Wrapped the packet in tissue if worried

This is what you should do and they stay potent for a LONG TIME!!! . Dehydrate at 160f for 24-30 hours. Next vacume seal 4g doses with 2 or 3 silica gel packs. make small bags that fit the 4g doses perfectly. After its vacuum sealed put it in another small bag and vacuum seal again. That way if one bag leaks it wont matter. After that you put all of your 4g doses in the freezer.

This one works great and it's only 55$! It must be on sale right now. I have the same one and I paid around 100$ for it. If you cant afford 55$ then God help you.

You also need to buy a dehydrator if you don't have one!

A freezer is so unnecessary. You are bang on otherwise...proper drying and sealed tight. Vacuum seal is just the absolute best method and dehydration is paramount

Putting stuff in the fridge or freezer can cause condensation if you're air is humid to start with, even in vac-seal. Also the actives don't degrade till nearly double the temp of boiling water. No need to overpackage with tons of mini bags and desiccant packs.
Jars are very much so fool proof. If you're stacking up kg+ amounts for long term storage then jars would become impractical, but I can fit ~qp in a half gallon jar with minimal squishing and crunching. If it's just for personal crush em, which a vac-seal would do inherently anyway, and you could fit 6-8oz.
Again vac-seal bags have a non plastic layer responsible for actually keeping the air/moisture out of the bag, but it is rather fragile. They're great, just not foolproof.

I bought a dehydrator. I have plenty of mason jars left over, can’t I put the shrooms in the jars in the refrigerator with desiccant packs?

Okay so I should just put them in the mason jars with silica gel packs but not in the refrigerator???

No need to refrigerate. A dark drawer or box in a not hot location is perfectly adequate. Don't waste fridge space.

Refrigeration will still slow down chemical breakdown that doesn't involve oxygen. I would rate it as one of those things that is 90% more work to get a 10% gain. It might be helpful if we're talking about storing for five years or more.
In my opinion, the best practical way for most of us to store dry mushrooms is in mason jars with desiccant packs, oxygen absorbers, and kept in a cool dark place. I have a CO2 tank and flush the jars before sealing just for an extra measure.
Ziplock bags are NOT airtight. I knew that, but put some crispy dry mushrooms in one because they were going to get used sooner rather than later. Sat around for a few weeks and started to get bendy again. Not suitable for long-term storage.

The packets meant for direct contact with dry foodstuffs are.
