Help! Is my shoebox a gonner? Please I'm sweating
    #26367565 - 12/07/19 06:14 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

About a week old, spots that look uncolonized have thin mycelium runing through that connects on all sides. I put some crumpled up wax paper on top to try and induce some pins

Tossed 1 jar due to yeast smell, spawn ratoo 2:2 wbs spawn to coir.

*EditThese tiny bumps (hopefully knots) formed all throughout the tub. I'm excited, hopefully these turn to pins.

These ended up not being pins. All my knots and pins formed on the sides due to improper conditions.

To induce pinning you need fresh air/ evaporation, not wax paper

Take the wax paper off.  When those water droplets on the mycelium disappear give it another mist. You might not have to mist for a couple days. Patience.

I found some condensed notes of RR and it mentions using wax paper to create microclimate, in the same way when the sides contract inward there's high humidity between the gap and side pins occur.

I'm curious if the tub needs to be a solid brick of white mycelium before it fruits, or if the thinner patches of mycelium will suffice as colonization.

You induce pinning by adding fresh air, a lot of people will start fruiting conditions when they spawn. The sub will start pinning when it’s ready once fresh air is introduced.

Leave that be, without wax paper, and it ought to explode with pins.

1:1 is the same as 2:2 smartass. I was trying to convey I used 2q of spawn to 2qts of sub in a 1:1 ratio.

A ratio is always to :1 not being a smart ass, because 2:2 isn’t a ratio. Really not trying to be a dick lol sorry if i seem that way

A ratio doesn't always have to be :1. First line of Wikipedia:
In mathematics, a ratio indicates how many times one number contains another. For example, if there are eight oranges and six lemons in a bowl of fruit, then the ratio of oranges to lemons is eight to six (that is, 8∶6, which is equivalent to the ratio 4∶3)

Saying 2:2 conveyed the information I wanted to, sure it can be reduced down to 1:1. You say you weren't trying to be a dick, but you contributed nothing to the topic at hand only to make a correction that wasn't even true.

Hahaha I figured that's what you were getting at how many quarts you used but for some reason this shit was super funny to me.

IIRC from math class it's preferred to reduce ratios to the lowest whole numbers. It avoids awkward long shit like 12000000:6000. Let's be calm and avoid insults.

How's your sub developing?

You’re totally right, it’s not always :1 all the examples I could think of (engines) were to 1, totally forgot tv dimensions etc. But still though, ratios should be in lowest terms.

Just to give an update, what I thought we knots were not. All my pins and knots are forming on the sides so I'm guessing I botched my surface conditions.

It didn't develop as well as I thought it should. The top did great but it remained spotty throughout the entire colonization. Thin mycelium intermixed with thick colonization. I'm considering removing the substrate so I can fruit the side pins in a bigger container, however I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it out without fucking shit up.
