Outdoor Ps. Azurescens mycelium transfer for cultivation. Florence, OR. * 1
    #26367376 - 12/07/19 04:58 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hey Shroomery family,

I have an experiment that I am looking for a little input on. This is the situation:

I have been living on the N. Oregon coast for the last few years, and have thoroughly enjoyed hunting the wood loving species and helping their genetics spread through conscious picking, spreading stem butts, spore water, etc.. However, this year I decided to take it one step further and try to cultivate a patch from mycelium gathered near the Columbia River. I found some fully colonized logs/branches that literally had azures growing out of them. I decided to take one of these branches (about 6 in. long, 6 in. diameter, 2 fruiting bodies on it), along with a few stem butts from the same, very large, azurescens patch the log was found in. What I have done is transport the mycelium down to a family members house near Florence, OR. From there, I used a mix of alder wood flakes meant for smoking meat, and freshly chipped alder chips from branches around the neighborhood for substrate. I did not treat the wood. I then dug a hole (4-6 in. deep, 2 ft. diameter) underneath a Rhododendron bush in the yard. I put the mixed alder chips/flakes in the hole and placed the colonized log dead in the center being sure to surround it with substrate as much as possible. I then placed the very healthy looking stem butts equally dispersed in regard to each other as well as between the log and the edge of the hole.

Does this sound like a viable TEK? I will be down here a few more days and would like to give it the best shot possible. Any suggestions would be appreciative. I have instructed my family member to water periodically during dry spells and am aware that adding more wood chips down the road is a good idea.

So far, the mycelium has branched out from the mother log and is touching wood chips in a couple spots. However, there looks to be cob-web like growth around the patch that I am worried is not Azure mycelium... can post pictures at request.

I would love to expand the Azurescens range down here if it hasn't already been done by someone under the radar!!

I hope this finds everyone well & thank you in advance

Love & Light <3

Yeah that works, when I wanna start a new patch I take a cardboard box and put some clumps of myc and pins in then transplant them to their new home, the advantage is instant fruit compared to waiting a whole season for it to get established. I usually end up leaving them to drop their spores for the first few months tho

Did the same exact thing in Florence this fall with Cyans, and azzie's cardboard spawn the past spring. Unfortunately didn't have any alder chips at the time, but a neighbor chipped up a few Fir trees which I laid down over Rhodys, then placed the spawn beneath. Didn't see any Azzies this fall, but hope to see fruits in future. Hope your patch prevails, and thanks for knockin' up my neck of the woods!
