I slept through a house fire for a while. Woke up 5ft from it and couldn't see anything through the black smoke. There was a whole wall of windows right there too, 0 visibility. Thought I wasn't gonna make it for a moment when I couldn't breathe oxygen on the floor. Gotta respect fire or ya get burned.

Timers are a must, I’ve definitely run a few cookers dry/ passed out, even slept through timers. nownI try to start them before 10pm for bags or before midnight for a jar run
I wouldn't suggest anyone else do it but I was able to tap base back to flat with a nice smooth + wide headed hammer, using light blows so as to minimize the stress to to aluminum as much as possible and working in circles from outside to the middle. Some people would say this is a bad idea but in my eyes the chance of even stressed metal failing before the rubber blow out valve is pretty low.
Burnt a bag or two to the bottom of a presto too, finally upgraded to All american and it doesnt happen anymore, also lose less during the decompression/cooldown since the AA’s have better thermal mass and slow cooler.
Also make sure to dial the temp back when you get it up to pressure, One of the times I passed out and the Pc ran for 6 hours without running out of water, grain was dark af and colonized super slow, but it still worked. The rocker doesnt need to be consistently rocking, once every minute or two is perfect imo, you can also super glue a quarter or two to the top and it doesnt need to rock at all.

Sucks bro. Been there ruined that PC. I now use timmers and run it outside. But that shit can get dangerous too lol. I'm happy nothing worse happened. It was so similar when I did it. I remember looking at the clock and thinking. Ok let it go for ten more min. Then I woke up to the smoke alarms blasting Wich woke up the baby and wife. No good. Lucky I am still growing mush between that and the time the saftey plug blew out and hit my wife in the face.

That sucks to lose a PC. Glad youre okay though, there could have been a worse ending.
I agree about using a timer. I did the same thing a few weeks ago, fell asleep shortly before I should have turned it off and woke up a couple hours later. PC was dry but thankfully not burned. Timets from now on!

No she was across the room. This was the first ever run of jars. I had a PC that I got from Goodwill. Apparently the plug was no good lol. Got to 113 psi and blew. Sounded like a gun shot with a lot if hissing afterwards. She hit the ground and I thought the worst. But then we had a good laugh and I ordered a presto.

My wife now sets her phone, I've been known to turn an alarm off without even knowing I turned it off. Trying to run just one PC again is tricky, the second really made a world of difference. Oh good, I'm glad she wasn't hurt, I would have assumed the worst too. Now I check the stove several times even if I know I cut it off.
