ID request please :)
    #26367168 - 12/07/19 03:15 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

  Hello,

I found some interesting fungus and I have my opinions about what these are but am requesting an ID to see what you think. I have an identification book that leads me to a particular species and spore print is dark brown to black. Was growing on a tree stump with redwood debri around in San Jose California. Any ideas?

It looks to be active, the bluing around it and the spore print looks good.
Don’t eat them yet until somebody 100% can clarify that they are safe.

I suggest Psilocybe allenii.

They do look active but I'm no expert. I have prints to just keep safe. Maybe one day knock up a log or chips 🎆 Thank you both for the replies!! My guess was cayanescens.

I walk on my breaks at work and take photos of all the crazy fungus. This really excited me when I saw the bruising so deep blue after handling and even on the edges of some caps initially. Im afraid of woodlovers paralysis though. I may have some tea sometime but still apprehensive.

Well for what it’s worth I’ve never heard about or seen anyone experience the effects of WLP. The only place I’ve encountered it was on this forum. So I don’t think it’s something I’d worry about tbh

Thanks for the reassurance . Being very cautious as this is my first ever active found and collected. I have to say it is super satisfying searching, taking prints, referencing books and asking folks here. 😎
