Also it's pretty silly to keep notes encrypted when you have physical plates anyway...
Your plates data should be good enough notes as is

bodhisatta said: I just write the variety the date and the transfer
Pesa 12/8/19 T-1
The spore plates just get a name and a date no sense writing t0
If i make five transfers from a spore plate i introduce letters
Pesa 12/8/19 T-1a T-1b And so on. If you wanted to branch from there you could do
aa ab ac .. ba bb bc
It really need not be something you think too much about keep it simple and easy
Could you give me an example of what 4 transfers from MS plate would look like please?

I was trying to figure out how to track the plates myself. It became obvious that I could easily end up with a while mess of plates. I like the idea of a number for a plate and the spreadsheet.

So far i like having the " I.D." number per plate with a reference sheet. Keeps numbers small and all the info is accesible.
Do you guys reuse your petri dishes? I always have and had no issues but this time around im having lots of bacterial infection. I think Im guna stop resusing

I was thinking about doing that and read about people soaking them in iso or bleach solution with no problems so it’s def possible.
I ended up just springing for the case of 500 but it’d be nice to reuse them at least once when they run out.

Well, I keep notes on many things regarding mycology and I'm an IT professional, so what do you expect? Also, if I get busted, they'll find 2-3 tubs and ~30 dishes (which are not illegal where I live, only the fruit bodys). That is no big deal. But if they find records of me harvesting 5 kilos in the past 2 years, then I'm totally fucked.

Yeah, and do you also write on your plates how much yield one particular fruited strain brought, or what the dry/wet ratio was? How you prepared the substrate for that special dish, in order to compare different fruiting properties? Do you encode on your dish if this strain came from a clone or spore/syringe? And do you keep record of the transfers aso. on your plates? You must have some friggin huge plates there.
Just my 2ct

I have been soaking in bleach with no problem but this batch i have like 4 plates bacterial. I think i just used iso this time and forgot the bleach.
I also have a case of 500 but figured I want to make them last as long as possible and hate the fact that im putting more plastic in the landfill by only using them once.
I might try to continue reusing but if i keep getting contamz im guna try to recycle or repurpose the old ones and use freshies each time.

I have a small lab supply store close to me. For 20 dishes I pay 5 Euros so I don't bother reusing them.
