Psilocybe Subcubensis
    #26365581 - 12/06/19 05:47 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I just learned of the existence of a Psilocybe Subcubensis. Does anyone here have any photos of some that you have found or grown? How different are they from regular Cubensis as far as appearance and dose goes? Any info about this mushroom is appreciated.

They are physically identical to normal cubes but have smaller spores. Chances are they have been widely circulated as regular cubensis throughout the cultivation community

Psilocybe Cubensis var. Subcubensis

They are specific to locations nearer to the equator. They are cubensis found between the tropics of cancer and Capricorn. It is a geographical distinction that carries with it some difference in attribute as well.

Common. There are many strains currently in circulation that could be considered Subcubensis.

Does that mean that the environment has altered the genetics enough to create a noticeable difference such as smaller spores? If so does that also mean that Cubensis spores from the US inoculated in soil nearer the equator would eventually take on this same characteristic?

Can you think of any that would fit the description?

...I think I am straight up misinformed. Gonna do some more reading but probably will end up deleting my posts there. Will follow up

Okay never mind. I was indeed correct in my initial posts.

Here’s a link:

http://www.en.psilosophy.info/species/psilocybe_subcubensis.htm

ZombiWurm:

1) Yes
2) I think probably
3) I could only guess. The difference in species seems so minuscule in it’s breath, not sure what Guzman was after, but I’ll tell you what I think...

I wouldn’t read to far into this whole species in general. Guzman is an icon, we owe him a ton. He’s also probably the only person who could sell this “species.” Smaller spores... It’s likely somewhat theoretical or designed to encourage further exploration on the part of mycologists. Guys like him love trying to inspire others to investigate. Shulgin was the same way. Great men.

Synonymous with Psilocybe cubensis. The spore size range is a bit greater than Guzman realized. This is a name from Mexico and P. cubensis is a name from Cuba, however this species is native to Asia."

Ah. Deprecated species. Meaning it is no longer considered a species at all. Thanks 🙏
