Five Grams Deep - Random Musings 1

This time of year...fuck it. Buy buy buy. Everything for sale, temporarily devalued; the sheer quantity of sales agglomerated through online & in-store sales equals profit regardless. Materialism overload. A temporary culturally sanctioned form of mania. I’ve noticed that a certain segment of people get pushier, more neurotic starting about now...some of them probably in reaction to others. Understandable. More chaos on the roads, people riding your ass....I slow down, every time, because fuck them. Which brings me to my next point...
Rejection. Rejection of culture, the negative parts specifically. As Terrence McKenna used to say: “Culture is not your friend.”
Have you ever heard an old person, someone who is still all there, someone who doesn’t swear much, say “fuck” or “fuck (insert something/anything here)”? They really had it down, back in the day, what these seldomly used (if you were classy) words meant. Objectively no better or worse than today of course...but worth noting that it’s use carried something more specific than today.
The older generation by and large understood it as a form of dismissal, and it was completely - in final consequence anyway - devoid of emotion...in fact, it was itself a way of dismissing any sentiment toward the subject being “fucked” (lol)
Today saying “fuck” can be casual, funny, whatever. I like that personally. But whenever it’s used as a “curse” it’s done with anger and then residual anger. A little different. Many of us have forgotten it’s use older definition. It’s lightness. To dismiss something completely and utterly, without a second thought. There is a sweetness to it’s aftertaste, a unique sort of thing. It’s fun sending something into the abyss, yeah?! You can then understand why it’s use was seldom; it would take an arrogant individual there, for overuse. This is assuming we are taking about intelligent, generally good natured, informed people and not stupid or wicked ones.
So, fuck early december I like Christmas and Christmas time in general a lot. But for me that doesn’t start for maybe another week or so minimum.
What do you guys make of Black Friday and all it’s bullshit cousins that go on this time of year?
Don’t take any of this too seriously! I’m mostly just high and thinking. Don’t wanna depress anyone here. Hope I haven’t lol. I’m literally surprised I can even type right now. In fact, writing this was difficult, confusing, and hilarious in the most basic of ways. Letters. Words. Language. Fascinating...fragile. Fun.
Overall message: be happy don’t allow negativity to attach itself to you. Fuck that stuff. Live free.

I think language is more about the separation from the animals. We, today, see old timey talk to be flowery. But the fact is it developed that way because life was really hard. Harder than people think. And when life is that hard, and lawlessness is all too common, there was a sense of pride in separating yourself from the animals. It was a recognition of civilization and high society. That's why cussing was seen as debasing yourself. I'm sure some had religious reasons but on a purely social level it was more about having pride and wearing it together. These days there's a growing trend of things we do "because we can" and these ideas of shame for the betterment of society have waned. Can't say I know what is right, but I do know that the generations have far too hard of a time understanding each other. Or perhaps, put far too little thought in to doing so.

You make a really good point there: life being hard, lawlessness, and the desire to distinguish oneself as separate from the “lower.” I’d never really considered that in any real depth.

Materialism?
There’s a movie called “Killing Them Softly” where Brad Pitt plays a hitman I watched recently. there’s a part where he gets into it with somebody about money and says: “America isn’t a country. It’s a business.” Don’t totally agree, but there’s some truth to it for sure. Definitely hit hard
