Harvested by picking, what next?

Whenever I harvested my flush, I just pulled and twist. It came off easily, but also took some of the substrate in some parts, exposing grains underneath. Right now the tub is being dunked for a couple of hours, and then I'll it back in my shoebox tub to start my next flush. Will the mycelium recolonize over the ripped parts of the substrate, or are the exposed grains a risk for contamination? Should I put some sort of casing layer on top of it? All I have is vermiculite. Or will it be okay as is? What do you recommend?

i had problems with exposed grain before, can't tell you if it's because i ripped it open and exposed a part of the middle that was uncolonized or not.
i'd say in most instances the grain recover and mycellium take over; but If i do expose grains these days, i simply cover it with loose casing material brushed over it. I always harvest with scizzors. I' kinda wish someone would invent a easy harvesting tool, maybe a long handled abd thin, but sturdy wire scalpel of sorts.

So are you saying I will have a problem with it and to put the dry vermiculite I have over it as a casing? The block is being dunked right now. I harvested just today. Is it fucked because of the substrate? Or should I just leave it and snap the lid back on for the next flush?

I also just have them sitting in a bowl in the refrigerator, I can’t put them in my dehydrator until another 6 hours. Is that okay?

just leave it.. just to not complicate things. it's more likely you wont have an issue.
I' was just saying when i harvest, if grain is exposed, i brush over some of the casing ontop of the exposed grain to cover it.
I don't remember having much issue with exposed grain until after 2nd flush. back in the day, there where times on 3rd or 4th flush i would notice the exposed grain being the first to show trich.

After a few days mycelium will start growing there again if conditions are still good. The main issue with divots is they can provide places for water to pool, which isn’t wanted. Field capacity verm can help keep divots damp but not drowned.
Yep a bowl in the fridge with no cover or a paper bag cover is fine for 6 hours.

yep, i put fruits in fridge all the time if my dehydrator is full..
as long as they are not sealed, they will be good for a week. they should dry out a bit in fridge too.

It’s ok I actually broke my sub in half last time taking it out of the shoebox. I harvested out the pieces back in and soaked them like normal. It actually grew some shrooms out of the crack in the middle.
A scalpel is great for harvest I don’t think it could get any easier, maybe a longer blade.

I’m doing the unBODIFIED tek, so I would just put it right back and my shoebox and snap that lid on again and leave it and just wait right? There isn’t something else I should be doing or worried about is there?

Just put it back in and wait. I’ve had new pins in two days sometimes.

I tried to clear my whole block of all aborts and pins, but I still see that I missed some now that I’ve dunked in and put in tub. Is that going to be a problem or cause anything?

No I picked my first couple clean but it gets old real fast. I’ve been leaving whatever I don’t feel like picking on there and they just kind of shrivel up and myc covers them.
