Red caps (non-amanita; R. Sanguine?)
    #26362660 - 12/05/19 10:08 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Red white and yellow mushrooms// Flat, wavy gills Red caps.
I found these under a pine treeSome have white gills some have yellow ones.  Yellow gilded Russula  seem to have a sweet sent.  Are these all Russula emetica or is there a difference?
Red caps dark to faded white stipe or yellow.  Gills wavy and flattened especially yellow ones

That’s from today but these next two Russula are old:

Is the green one Russula cyanoxantha?
Not very tall.  Distinct noticed dark and bright colors for those first mushrooms.
It’s nice seeing them aged well like the first one.  I heard that these are inedible, but I have also heard they won’t hurt you much. Some people say it okay to taste these.  The red ones seem to grow mostly all of the year. Saw two green Russula in October

honestly, with Russulas, there are so many that look alike making a definitive ID from photos seems impossible... making a definitive ID, even if you are an expert, seems difficult.

According to the guide I use
Russula emetica should have white spores (not cream or yellow..... and I'm sure this can be very subjective), a hot flavor if chewed and an unpleasant odor

If your mushrooms have a sweet/flowery odor they are likely something different - and there are around a dozen possibilities listed in my guide, with little to distinguish them physically.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Like Badge says, it will often take some effort to identify these, and claim a bit of your time in the process.

I don't know many comprehensive keys, but Michael Kuo has made an interesting compendium if you care to read it (long text):

I've kind of tried my luck with them but have only gotten just so far when I discover something more intriguing.
Scatterbrain not work good with Russula, sez I.

You can any mushroom,  but never swallow  and be sure to rinse afterwards. Mushrooms are only poisonous once they reach the gastrointestinal tract.
