PTSD and depression are two conditions that are being trialled for treatment with psilocybin. A ‘magic mushroom’ nasal spray has been designed to make microdosing easier for people trying to treat their PTSD or depression.
Silo Wellness, an Oregon company with a team with roots in cannabis delivery modalities, has developed a magic mushroom nasal spray in Jamaica – where psilocybin is legal – for controlled, metered-dosing known as ‘microdosing’.
Magic mushroom nasal spray The psilocybin nasal spray passes the gut, going directly to the bloodstream through the nasal mucus membranes and eventually the liver for metabolising. This saves the patient from feeling nauseous, as commonly experienced when taking psilocybin.
Board Advisor and Silo Wellness investor Becky Rotterman, a Missouri pharmacist, stated: “Many psilocybin patients, particularly women, complain of upset stomach or vomiting when taking high-doses of mushrooms.
“We want to bring this wonderful natural medicine first to Oregon and then the flyover states – to those who would be afraid to eat a handful of fungi and who feel more comfortable seeing their medicine in a familiar delivery modality, such as a metered-dose nasal spray.”
The correct dose When a patient takes psilocybin the dosage is vital. Many people end up ‘stacking’, whereby the first dose takes some time to take effect so the patient consumes more, only to find they have taken too much later on. Microdosing alternatives with faster uptake speed are important in order to prevent accidental high-dosage experiences.
Silo Wellness founder, Mike Arnold, said he created the medicine dispenser after his first experience with psilocybin after he was advised by a doctor to try it.
He said: “I couldn’t help to think how fortunate I was to have an actual physician take me on my first trip rather than ‘some guy’ I know, but I realised that most first-time users don’t have that luxury.
“I reached out to my long-time colleague from the marijuana space, brilliant inventor Michael Hartman, and we agreed that we need to be able to give patients predictable dosing so they can self-titrate into the desired levels of sub-psychedelic or psychedelic treatment.”
“We solved the age-old problem with plant- and fungus-based medicine: How do you know how much is a dose?” Hartman explained. “How do you avoid taking too much, like the cannabis edibles dilemma? We also managed to solve one of the common complaints of some mushroom users: taste and upset stomach.”
Healing trauma with magic mushrooms Psilocybin is being trialled for the treatment of a number of physical and mental conditions, two of which are PTSD and depression. The psychoactive component is thought to stimulate receptors in the brain and potentially ‘rewire the brain’ by increasing neuro connectivity – helping to heal trauma from physical or psychological events.
COO, Scott Slay, said: “We are so grateful for the opportunity to have an actual and real first-to-market consumer product in magic mushrooms.
“I found mushrooms after returning from Iraq working in IED demolition and combat. The war changed me and the VA was ill equipped to help me transition and deal with my PTSD.
“I was heavily medicated. Mushrooms and DMT saved me. My life was renewed. I now have peace and purpose, and I can’t wait to share this opportunity with the world.”
Since psilocybin and other psychoactive compounds are found in nearly 200 known-species of mushrooms, humans have evolved around these beneficial chemical compounds.
Users of psychedelics have known for many years that small “micro doses” of mushrooms can give the user spiritual, medical, and therapeutic benefits without sending the user into a psychedelic ’trip’ as with high doses of mushroom biomass.
Psilocybin for depression has recently been given its second ‘Breakthrough Therapy’ designation by the FDA.

America keeps falling further and further behind in every aspect of life and technology. I am in the middle of rehabbing a 100 year old house myself, and of course I am trying to put as much green and energy efficient technology into the house as I can...and of course I try to incorporate passive technologies used in things such as Earth ships, but I am not a luddite and enjoy tech too much and love having a smart home...but R&D and product sourcing has made me realize that America is 5-10 years behind everywhere else in the world when it comes to access to reliable, simp[le, inexpensive energy efficient technologies...such as using a single air-water heat pump to provide DHW and all HVAC needs or smart technologies for controlling hydronic heating system(and don't get me started on hydronic cooling which barely exists in the US).
To get these things in the US you either have to piece them together yourself or pay or pay stupid money for the few systems in the market...while they have ALL of it and MORE for LESS than we pay for our mid-20th century technology right now.
And we can't use any of it because we refuse to use the same standards as everyone else...even if you got a voltage/frequency regulator to deal with the 220v/50hz or wired for 220 on a device that doesn't mind a slightly higher frequency you still have to overcome the imperial vs metric barrier...it's ridiculous.
And now, as we press to Make America Great Again, and defend our privatized healthcare and fight to win the war on drugs...we keep falling behind in all other aspects of society. We now have the most expensive healthcare in the world which by no metric can be considered the best...and economically we are trying to go back 100 years the the guilded age while the rest of the world keeps moving forward implenting regulatons and reforms as they learn from the past rather than repeat it.
I'm getting to a point where it might by feasible to expatriate, and my wife and I plan on getting pregnant soon...I honestly don't want to raise a child in this country, unfortunately family will probably keep me chained here.

How does any of that relate to a psilocybin nasal spray?

not surprised in the least. i just prefer to keep things natural from start to finish from growing to consuming. BUT some people may need this form of ingestion like the article says. Hell i hate the smell of mushrooms so this is probably a no-go for me lol. these will be the vape cart of shrooms.

It's actually really clever, the route of administration. We could easily prepare this at home just like cocaine or ketamine can be used in a nasal spray. Just super concentrate your solution without the addition of tea. It would be much more tolerable than LSD alcohol solutions up the nose.

Yeah, it's interesting that they claim this method bypasses possible nausea too.
I could just imagine getting one of these inhalers and using it all in like a day lol.

Did you happen to notice where it is being made? They may want to bring it to the US, but I doubt they will have much luck getting in past government regulators...and if they do, it will hardly be widely available as I find it doubtful that it will find its way onto most private insurers' preferred drugs lists.
They can't even get permission to develop it here, and you think they are going to be able to make this available to consumers? LOL.
It'll just become another example of progress that isn't available within the US.
Point being, the rest of the world is taking steps forward in all facets of society...technology, science, medicine, etc. Making great efforts to make these advances available to consumers and incorporating them into their way of life...but here we are struggling not to move backwards....ACA marketplaces are in shambles, cannabis legalization and drug war reform has stalled, US automakers have moved to only producing gas guzzling SUVs and trucks in the US(as we roll back future mileage requirements), Trump is talking about doing away with mostly voluntary water saving programs and rules and for toilets and fixtures sponsored by the EPA. So proud to be an American, God Bless the USA...

Isn't the Psilocybin breakthrough therapy approval the first step towards rescheduling? It seems we're actually on track, so to speak, with this one.
Just because there's some corrupt retards in power doesn't mean we're entirely fucked. The old cunts arr dying off and it's everyone's responsibility to help change the status quo, everyone's. Start with loacal and state gov to put the right people in charge of eliminating the corrupt bullshit like the electoral college and gerrymandering so we can at least have honest democratic elections to choose representation in out Republic.

Any thoughts on how to make this?
I lost access to my old account here and created a new one just to inquire about a TEK on this. I just saw this news yesterday... My issue in the past with micro dosing biomass was overdosing...lol, taking too much before work and things would get weird quick.
Would grinding it up into powder and mixing it with water be enough?
How about making a tea, filtering out the biomass and fill a nasal spray bottle?
How would one get the math right for a sub .1g gram dose per spray?
Should I create a new thread for this?
I love this idea! Sounds like it could really help folks.
I Hope it becomes a real possibility for medical use in the states.
Thanks ya'll!

So first I would take a clean empty nasal mister and fill it with the appropriate volume of distilled water. Then count the number of mists until empty. This can just be sprayed into the air. Once you know how many pumps you get from 1 fill decide how strong you want wach mist to be. Make a solution by boiling your mush in distilled water and then thoroughly strain using coffee filters and the like. Fill bottle and use according to your desired dosage.

Nice! you make that sound rather simple.
Any reason why one would use distilled water over regular tap or filtered water?
