Slow agar to grain

7 days ago I inoculated rye grain with a monoculture on agar. This is my first time using agar for inoculating as well as my first time with grains. This seems slow compared to what I've read about others doing the same.. the temp in my apartment stays around 76 78. Is that why it's slow?

Let it ride, grain may be too dry but it could just be that culture. Some are slower than others and if you havent ran that one yet it could just be a slow colonizer.

Right now I also prepared my grains actually too dry, looking similar to yours but even with some wrinkles, and the colonization is about as slow as yours.

I thought mine were slow as well, cant remember when I inoculated with the agar but I think about 10 days ago and they look similar to yours. This is one of the pint jars

Hoping our jars take off soon!

I’m scared of pouring, ok? There, I said it...
But srsly, I ordered a 20-pack and just tossed it to storage once I saw how flimsy they are. They don’t even stay closed without tape/wrap. Idk maybe I got shitty petris or something, but with pasty plates, I can juggle them and know they’ll stay closed.

lol I was nervous about it too but it’s about as hard as pouring soda from a 2 liter into a cup. Handling the dishes is taking some getting used to but once I got a feel for where the lid and bottom are through the gloves it’s ok. Especially once they’re wrapped up nice, which is also an art form.
I was gonna do mini rounds myself but I just couldn’t see it being worth it since you can’t see very well.
