You are a SLAVE to your employer. You are treated like dogshit. QUICKLY do this. DONT talk back. DONT make friends. DONT be social. DEAL with pay cuts. DEAL with hour cuts. DEAL with outside management hiring.
You are a SLAVE to your health. DEAL with 300 a week insurance.
You are a SLAVE to your education. DEAL with 200k student loan debt.
The ONLY reason you dont think you're in a shit situation.... is because youve never given it an honest go elsewhere.
Healthcare is FREE in most places. Wages are HIGHER. Companies are NICER to you. Boss's are friendly.
You cannot ever understand what I am saying. And you will never leave. It is SO frustrating.
I was working 3 jobs. 2 at minimum wage and one at 10 dollars an hour. All 3 jobs were primarily fri sat and sun work. So even with 3 jobs I wasn't getting full time. And EACH employer was getting more and more pissed at my lack of availability. Eventually I was fired from one company for missing too many days work. And then I had to choose the minimum wage job and quit the 10 dollar an hour job because I could get more total hours. (Can you EVEN IMAGINE that choice)
I had a health issue with one of my testicles. Insurance at the time was 300 a week (pre obama). And I was making about that a week so obviously I couldn't get it. I was eating rice and franks hot sauce and living paycheck to paycheck. I had this issue for a good 5 years. Obamacare came around and lo' and behold health insurance still not affordable. Something like 170 a week as I recall? And it would only cover like 60 percent? I dont remember but the math ended up being unaffordable.
Finally after being bent over in pain and unable to tolerate it anymore.... I went to a hospital crying. Knowing exactly what was going to happen. I was going to get a huge bill. I was going to be unable to work for a few weeks. I was going to AT BEST be unable to afford everything and live in car. At worst I'd lose my job and live in the car.
I lost the testicle. Could have been easily fixed had I went in earlier. The total cost of surgery was astronomical. I havent paid a single penny cuz FUCK america. I was on medications and couch for a week. I went back to work after 5-7 days still very much so on medications. My coworkers jockying for position to get my hours off of me started mocking me to my boss as lazy for not doing the hard work. Boss was believing it and giving me ultimatums. Ended up trying to work while high as fuck and caused an accident that cost the company 10 grand. My boss fired me on the spot.
Afterwards started buying and selling anything I could. Found another minimum wage job a few months later (SHOCKER fri sat and sun only work at part time). Finally got tired of it sold everything I had bought a plane ticket and passport and visa. And flew to australia. I was homeless 1 week prior to leaving and 3 weeks after arriving.
I didnt have a penny to my name. 2 weeks in I got a job working full time making 60k a year. I'm 2 years in and I'm making 180k a year. All while working not even a quarter as hard as I was in america. And if I lost my job tomorrow I'd find another 60k a year position in a week.
People are smarter. People are happier. More relaxed. Higher wages. Free healthcare. Healthier food. More emphasis on the individual at every level.
As an american I am often looked at as weird when I speak professionally in emails or call instead of text or just my general intensity that I work at. You know what it is? Its the work ethics of a SLAVE once they become FREE. Even 10 percent of my customer service skills are better than other workers here.
And I KNOW exactly what naysayers are thinking. But but but!!!! COST OF LIVING!!!! Well you can tell that to my fucking bank account. Whats expensive are things that kill you. Cigarettes, booze, chips, fried crap. You can still get a kilo of carrots for 2 bucks. Chicken wings 6 dollars per kilo. Housing is only expensive if you live near a big city (just like america duh). You can get a decent 3 bedroom for 300k with an hour drive to city.
It is an absolute NO BRAINER. The problem is.... i have to debate with people who have never left. And if they have left it was for a short vacation.
There is only ONE benefit america has over australia. (Two if you include the bbq / mexican food) And that is opening a business. It is much easier to open a business in american than aus. I will concede that point. But for a worker. For the vast majority of people. Get out of your cage.

Australians, on the whole, are definitely better off than Americans, that's for sure.
I always find these (frequent) comments about one country being better or worse than another country funny. Since we are talking about hundreds of millions of people in such comparisons, it's laughable anyone could think they could make such a grand pronouncement. It's a bit like claiming the weather or food is "better" in one country than another. We can compare statistics, but to say these 25 million people who live in one country are "better off" than those 327 million people who live in another country seems irrational and far beyond speculation and assumption.

Well, Australia beats us in median wealth (#2 in the world vs #22 in the world).
Australia beats us in happiness (#11 vs #19).
If you're not interested in these kind of metrics, then sure, you can ignore what I said. Or if there's a metric you think is more important that these, feel free to share. I'm open minded.

I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

His argument is effectively "If one person is better off in one country than that means you cant compare them".
Its like saying women arent weaker physically than men because ronda rousey could kick my ass.
This desperate need to not be equivocated lol. Meanwhile the mere fact that healthcare is free clearly demonstrates the superiority of Aus. Let alone the higher pay and higher quality of life.
It would take him a week of working in Aus to realize how wrong he is.

Goddamn it's refreshing to see reason used around here.

If it weren't for firstly the gold 1800's, then wool 1900's, coal mid 1900's iron ore late 1990's till present, then this place would be another banana republic island in the Coral Sea/Indian Ocean etc.
The commodities have helped swing the economy in a different direction as our textile/automobile/machinery manufacturing industries closed one after another. Aus simply does not have the numbers when it comes to competing with China.
Aus is supposed to have a 90 day fuel supply because the bulk of the raw and refined petroleum comes from overseas now. That's a worry I think.
It's a numbers game.
