Small packs of sterile Petri dishes
    #26361390 - 12/04/19 04:28 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Looking to make some agar, but don’t want to pour 10 plates, maybe just a few 3-4.  Considering I’ve read that once you open the sleeve you should use them all, has anyone found any in smaller sterile packs?

I could make you some, but itl be a bit pricey. I strongly suggest at least making 10, because they store well.

just make 10... they'll get used up quickly and they store fine in the fridge

If you really insist on only using 3 or 4, buy glass and sterilize them before using...

You need a pyrex slimline bottle, agar agar, malt extract, a pressure cooker, a scale, tin foil, and patience.

I'm not sure about the price overall, as I have to determine the shipping costs.

If you want to go full big brain, buy the big ole case of petris for 70 dollars. It's worth it. Trust me. 500 petri dishes will go fast if you are serious about mushrooms.

I burned through 100 just to get a master culture that I think I'm close to getting.

Also. After so many transfers, change up the nutrients, so make this many malt agar, and so many potato dextrose agar, and maybe some other types, like rye soak water agar. The mycelium will burn out on one thing if it's used too much and stall from what ive seen.

The more I work with mycelium, the more I believe it to be intelligent and needy. This will sound bizzare, but i always take a dose before doing the major work. The will of the shroom guides me and i rarely make mistakes, except for when i stupidly sterilized my coir.

Dont.
Sterilize.
Coir.

Pasteurize only.

Thanks for the info, definitely gonna try the slimline bottle, pouring was a pain last time.

Also, I’ve tried coir, pasteurized via the cooler method and it worked great, will use that again for sure.

100 plates for a master culture? That's nuts...

If you take a tissue clone and grow it out on agar, is that an immediate means of acquiring a "monoculture "

I'm wondering if I'm not positive about what a master culture is...could you explain it to me?
