I use the exact same parts except 13mm ports instead of 20mm ones. I only put RTV on the underside of the lid. I also include a magnetic stir bar for my stirrer, but it's not required. Works great for me.

Rather than drilling an oversized hole and using a ton of rtv for the filter, I drill a slightly undersized one and thread the plastic tip into the hole. It's almost water tight before I put the RTV on.
Edit: You want the red RTV, not the white stuff.

Great! Thanks Greg. I'll see if I can find the smaller ports one.
I've seen that some people uses plastic lids instead of the metal lids, like these here. https://www.shroomsupply.com/myco-jar-lids/mushroom-jar-lids/plastic-jar-lid-pp5-regular-mouth-70-mm?zenid=12u7api4m1a8o9vvj15g31m4j7
Any advantages using plastic over the metal lids?

To clarify, either port size will work. I just got the 13mm ones because they were cheaper.
As far as plastic lids go, they've always been kind of a nightmare for me. They expand during the pc cycle which has on occasion caused rtv/filters to pop off or the lids themselves to warp. They also seem to have kind of a poor seal compared to metal lids. I know some people here use them with good results so ymmv.

Gotcha! Thanks for the tip re: the lids
I'm browsing the different filters, and i'm noticing that different materials is listed under the filters.
For instance,
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XX32CGN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2WJ50ILVLFYKK&psc=1
This one says the material is Polypropylene(PP) and others is eg. PTFE Polytetrafluoroethylene.
Is there a specific filter material I should use?
Thank you! This is all super helpful!

Polypropylene is what the housing of the watman filter is made of. Ptfe (teflon) is a good option for the actual filter material. Basically all that matters is they're able to be PCd / can withstand the heat.

I swear I've made and tried just about every lid design for lc's and IMO, if your going to use it right away, and are using a glass jar, dont modify the lid. If you plan on storing it long-term then it needs a filter.

I got a 10cc spore syringe, and wants to cultivate it for storing. I assume this is the right approach then? I know agar is an option too, but I feel more comfortable doing it with LC.

I use modded sfd plastic lids, no injection port. Just open them in sterile conditions. I'm moving to the new "leakproof" Ball plastic lids but the old ones I wrap like plates with cling wrap.

Do agar first, then if you have a clean culture, make an LC from an agar wedge.

Listen to this guy... Agar first, Ive probably made 3-4 times more contaminated lc than I have clean ones. I just recently become confident in my lc approach. I couldn't have gotten there without agar.

Okay. Good to know. I think I need to do a bit more reading on agar and how to transfer spore syringe to agar. It just sounded a bit more complicated, but also less risk of contamination?
EDIT: Is it really this simple? Prep the dish with agar, poor one drop from spore syringe to the agar dish and wait for it inoculate? Of course with sterile equipment / environment.

they're fine just silly expensive if you're going to stay in this hobby. Pouring your own or no pours are easy.

Yeah, I think that makes sense. I'm gonna give this a try and see how it develops. Thank you everyone for the help!
