COCO coir directly on top of a BRF cake experiment
    #26360603 - 12/04/19 08:25 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I was curious if anyone has ever added a layer coco coir or any other substrate for that matter directly on top of a BRF cake once it has been transferred in to the fruiting chamber? I got 2 flushes from all of my cakes and have to toss them soon due to leaving town for a while so I figured I try a little experiment and throw a layer on top of a few cakes and watch what happens.

Lemme know if you’ve ever tried anything like this or seen anyone try it, i’m very curious if it could get another decent flush by adding in some much needed nutrients.

You'd just be adding more substrate not nutrients. Your cakes have already been weakened with two flushes youd be making them expand what little energy they have left to colonize the coir. You might still get more fruit though if you just need a way to keep them from drying out. Not much to lose but I think they'd likely contaminate.

It will just act like a casing.
It doesn't need or want nutrients.
