What do you most take for granted?
    #26360459 - 12/04/19 06:09 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

It would have to be either time or money for me; I always seem to assume I've more of either than I've actually got.

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

Health.  I rarely appreciate not feeling like shit until I’ve caught some kind of bug, broken a bone, or something happens like appendicitis.  I recognized this fact recently and I’ve been working on being more mindful of health, taking care of it & being grateful for it.

I'd have to agree with Burke.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Psalm 12:6
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Revelation 3:11
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Probably my job references. I was just thinking about this the other day. Without those well hearted ex-bosses who were willing to say good words about me to my current and best employer,  I don't think I'd have made it to where I'm at now. If those people die or forget about me,or what not, I could be kind of fucked to a degree

You know the health thing got me thinking whilst driving home just now... I've always considered the two I mentioned - Time & Money - to be resources; i.e. one can exchange one for the other.. but is health another?

I guess it is. Like time and money it is finite, and like time and money, I guess health, for the most part, can be exchanged for the two.

How do we go about being grateful for all these things which so easily slip through our fingers?

I probably take for granted most my society where I live. It's such a peaceful and generally good natured place that provides me so much for so littl effort and contribution. When I read here and other places online about the shittiness and hardship that people endure because of the other humans around them it's probably the only time I think about how good I've got it.

Fuckin' oath mate. That's exactly why I intend to spend the rest of my life living there, once I make it out of here.

There's something real special about that country.

Being taught.

All of the things I take for granted, I have retained through being educated on how too. I forget to pay attention to a lot of situations I could learn from, and instead complain or just pass negative judgement internally. If I remembered to cherish every single event, dream, memory, plan, etc as something to learn and grow from, I would survive much easier with many of the other things I take for granted. Being prepared through wisdom and knowledge are something I just down right ignore more times than not, it makes me feel like a fool.

Also, today I hit one of the most adult walls Ive ever hit. This statement about taking time for granted is parallel slightly.

A man had to once say "How can I control another man into believing that time is of value? I shall offer him a prize of power.  What shall I give him to prove his power? Make it universal with an object. We can call it money later on once so many people kill eachother and seperate its value, losing focus on what is truly powerful. Love." So I realized if time is money...than love and ego must be synonymous. For to love another one must love oneself....and what way to love one self more than to find a way to be above all others and create a structure that can never be broken....time and money being the root of the evil....love and ego being the fruit.

I asked myself today..."is the glass half empty, or half full?" As I sat with my dogs pondering life....

Suddenly the glass I always imagined wasn't a glass of water....it was an hour glass. My stomache is still anchored through my bowels.

I would say money. I spend it waaay too fast when at any moment I could be without a job and have nothing. Im bad with money, tough habit to break.

Also as Burke mentioned health. Nothing makes u appreciate your health like being sick or having an injury.

I agree with health, but narrowing that down i would have to say my eyesight and hearing.  I can deal with illness, but i doubt that i would be able to cope with losing either ov those.

Mental health, physical health, family, friends, food, water, music, art, shelter, nature...and air

Basically most things.

Nice thread. Most of our lives could be better but it could also be a lot worse.
