Just got done with this. They seemed to push the low income housing as the main fix.

:yeahthatsfunny:

I guess low income housing is better than no housing. But to think it would fix anything is craaazy. lol

Ultimately, I think it enables people to continue their bad behavior.

Anyone ever spend any time in Olympia?
The city makes it so if you are homeless you get:

3 free meals a day, free needles and toiletries A FREE TENT!
public rest rooms.....

If I had all that when I was homeless I might have never cleaned myself up.

If you’re blue collar you’re priced out too

As for Oakland

http://thepioneeronline.com/39009/metro/gentrification-in-oakland-on-the-rise/

Quote:

The diversity of Oakland has subsequently been affected as the cost of living has risen. In 1990 African-Americans made up about 43.9 percent of Oakland’s population. In 2000, that number was 35.7 percent, and in 2010 African American’s only made up 28 percent of Oakland’s population according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s nearly a 16 percent decrease in Oakland’s black community since 1990.
At the same time in 1990, white people made up 32.5 percent of the population, then declined to 31.3 percent in 2000 and increased to 34.5 percent in 2010. Over all that’s a six percent increase in Oakland’s white population.

The average price for a home in SF is 1.3 million. That’s not possible for a blue collar worker.

So. You’re totally fucking wrong. Keep up the hard work though. Unfortunately, America is rigged so it never pays off but still we’re all so proud of you.

Alex Jones says that's all part of the plan. Illuminati wants zombie homeless people rampant across America; particularly in the cities. That way when they're ready for the Final Solution (biological weapons attack on cities) the population will drop drastically and solve most of the Illuminati's problems.

Get this, 1 in 38 Americans live in New York City alone. If the Illuminati releases bioweapons in the cities (deadly diseases) they can just blame it on anti-vaxxers and illegal immigrants and cull the majority of the nation's population...

If I was an evil Illuminati fuck that's one of the things I would do to get the world population down to 500 million.

Infect all the cities with diseases that they have already taken the cures for.

I really wouldn't be able to say anything about Oakland, being that, Ive Never been there..

The central district was traditionally where most of Seattles middle class black families lived.

Now a lot of those single family homes are getting torn town and 300,000 dollar condos are being built in their place.

Most of those families have moved south twards kent and federal way.

I guess thats just what happens when the property value goes through the roof

I worked at this little dirty mexican restaurant in belletown a while back.

It was on a 1/4 acre lot, apparently the owner has bought it for only $50.000 back in the 60s, I think it was about 6-7 years ago now....
This guy showed up at his restaurant with a lawyer and offered him
$10,000,000 for that property he bought for peanuts way back when.

What would you do?

I agree.

And if you have a degree, there is certainly a lot of money to be made here.

Dishwashers here make 15-17 an hour
But the trade off is, you'd have to live about an hour bus ride away to find a place you could afford on that kind of income

So you can make it if you ride that bus. That is the price you pay for wanting to do what you do and live where you live.

Trust me 75% of those people are homeless by choice.

I agree. I was close to being homeless a couple of times, I am too much of a pussy to be homeless, lol. I got really lucky at the last minute and found a place to stay.

"Gentrification" will NEVER stop, progress will never stop. One has to adapt and adjust to live where they can instead of hating what is happening, it's the way of the corporate greedy world we live in. I went back to school at 42yo to have a better income. Plus nursing is a field that will never be out of demand. I was in bars and restaurants for 36 years by the way, did dish-washing to management, everything but own a place. Working since I was 12-13yo, but legally 17. I knew if I wanted to live in a big city and have convenience and fun that I would have to get a degree of some kind.

I know a guy who graduated from CIA in SF. He is a chef to a very wealthy family now in Texas. He started in marriots, and various other restaurants in town and worked his way up through to high dollar places like shannahans and del friscos type places, and that's where he made the connect for the family he is a chef for. I can almost guarantee you he would not have made it that far if he hadn't gone to the CIA in SF, but I don't really know. I do know those people in those high places look at stuff like that and would more than likely hire someone with those credentials before someone without them.

Yes, the game is rigged, yes it fucking blows, but in order to get to a certain level in life one has to play the games to a certain extent to get to the level they want, and that includes sucking it up and bowing down to the powers that be. Yes living on ones own land and being self sustainable is very interesting and sounds good, but the money needed to do that and the back breaking work to maintain it is really not for 99% of the people.

Plus, what about healthcare? Going to the doc? Dentist needs? If you're with a mate and it's a female what if she gets pregnant? You going to be legend of walks far woman and lean on a tree and give birth? What about staph infections, colds, exposure to the elements, and on and on. Face it, society and the world has improved with "gentrification" and everything else it provides. Some people don't want to be "rich" and I'm one of them, but I'm not going to be without certain comforts that I enjoy just to be a rebel or some martyr or self righteous fuck progress/govmt./gentrification/banks etc...that seems to me to be cutting off ones nose just to spite the face IMHE.

Not to mention when you're 50yo plus things start to go and ailments start no matter how physically fit a person is, sooner or later they'll need some medical care of some kind, period. I would NOT want to be an hour away from a doc or ANYTHING a big city provides. I like having stores one mile from me, my job 9 miles away, and living in a house close to everything. I thrive on city life. I lived in a very rural area for 4.5 years and found out that life is NOT for me in any way shape or form. FUCK that shit!

I’ve visited Baltimore several times a year for nearly a decade. It’s a great city, while there are better cities, it’s got plenty of merit.

So what happened with this is seattle out of control with homeless or what? Maybe they could swing some kinda deal to get Giuliani out there. Just stick him in somewhere and have him work the angles. Like look Rudy you gotta go out to the sticks for a while till this whole thing blows over. But while your out there do what what you did to the homeless in new york but just out there. Whip the police up into a frenzy or whatever. The love you for that ull be back in the game baby.

In San francisco a few years ago, they changed it so all drug offenses are a  misdemeanor.....
They were forced to because the jails were getting so full a judge ruled it "cruel and unusual punishment"

Now its basically a free for all for junkies and derelicts.

What a mess

Gentrification is a good thing. Why would you want your city to be a shit-hole forever.

Things are getting more expensive because we are over-populated and have finite resources. I don't see that changing so you might want to just start making more money please.

Gentrification is a mixed bag. DC is the most gentrified city in the US. It’s hella expensive but compared to the 90s DC is amazing. We almost don’t have ghettos anymore.

Compared to the west coast, homelessness is pretty low key.

Seattle is barely in the top 10

Washington, D.C. — 40 percent
San Diego, CA — 29 percent
New York, NY — 24 percent
Albuquerque, NM — 23 percent
Atlanta, GA — 22 percent
Baltimore, MD — 22 percent
Portland, OR — 20 percent
Pittsburgh, PA — 20 percent
Seattle, WA — 20 percent
Philadelphia, PA — 17 percent

Baltimore is a pretty cool city. Almost all of the crime is limited to a few very bad neighborhoods. Most of the murders are revenge killings. The violence is pretty well contained to being between violent people. I have no fear walking around the city by myself at night.

I’d rather live in Baltimore than Ottawa that’s for sure

Baltimore is like DCs poor twin. Housing costs are about half that of DC. Baltimore has a lot cool converted warehouse apartments and really old epic townhouses. A lot of people live in Baltimore and commute to DC for work. It’s only 30 minutes by train.
