Is vermiculite required in a bulk substrate? Straight Coir ok?

I use vermiculite and coco coir in equal parts for my monotubs with alittle dehydrated horse manure and gypsum. I am running low on vermiculite and will have to complete the project with Coir, horse manure and gypsum. Without the vermiculite I'm assuming I'll be ok but part of me wonders if vermiculite has a specific advantage. I've heard some people use straight Coir. Any thoughts?

100% coir gives me great results.
One of my better results was just 2qts spawn to 4qts coco(no verm)

72.6g dry from 2qts spawn and some reptile bedding.
What's vermiculite?

Verm in bulk is used mainly to reduce the nutritional content of the sub while maintaining water to reduce contamination footholds and for cultures that like their fruiting sub less nutrition rich.
Straight coir is fine if your spawn is clean but if your jars have contams, you’re more likely to have a bad time and sooner, but they probably won’t miss the lack of verm.

What's vermiculite?

No offense bto but aren't you guys (TCs) supposed to be getting like 200+% BE ?
I thought getting about 1oz dry per quart of spawn puts you at about 100%...which is close to what you got...
Just curious not trying to talk shit, cus I seriously dont know what's expected from 1oz pf spawn...

That's one flush be is a total number. And no tc's don't have to hit 200%

Nah, some are TCs cause they can throw random shit together and make it grow. The reality is that if you do enough experiments you end up with so many damn shrooms that Maximizing BE isn’t that important, unless you’re into that kinda thing.
That’s kinda the shroomery-BE estimate, as the real definition of BE includes bulk substrate in the math.
